WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1984, WHITBY FREE PRESS OTT1AWA - Despite the rantlng and ravlng of his collegues, Ontario RidIng MP Scott Fen- nels reaction to the recently brought down federal budget was sur- prising ho-hum. "'We had a budget, so what,"l the Opposition Progressive "Conser- vative frontbencher commented from his Ot- tawa office last Thur- sday afternoon. "It must of been writ- ten in the fog," he said, "There's some good ideas, but there's no legisiation, the only thing is the $50." Fenneil was referring to the $50 a month in- crease in the Guaran- teed Income Sup- plement paid to senior citizens. He does not even think that the government's annual economic statement was meant as an election ploy. "I think it's so bad that they couldn't get away with it, I mean it's not really a budget." However, in the true tradition of the Op- position, Fennell is con- fident that this party would have brought in a real budget. "'We would have put in incentives to get jobs created in the private sector," he saîd pointing out "1that until the economy gets moving we can't get out from under the deficit and the only way to get the economy moving is to get people, working again." In fact, his major criticism of the budget cornes in the form of a .startling statistie. "You know, the cost of the deficit this year equals the deficit when Trudeau took office." Car Care Council says a well-rnain- tained vehicle is worth hundreds of dollars more at trade-in time than a ne- glected one. Appearance condition is a big factor. Here*s sonme advice of- fered by the Council on keeping up the appearance of your car: A weekly washing. with mild detergent or Just cool water. is vour tirsi step.
