' The pets being referred ta include exotie snakes, ferrets and larger cats. Batten says that the fear of bath the committee and the local brancb af the Ontaria Huinan Society is that peaple who do not knaw how ta properly care for these animais will release them into the environment where they may pose a hazard to the public. Weare well wr that there are people who are well versed in the care- of these animais but we still feel that there shauld be some rules and regulations in place," Batten said. "We wauld like the proper controIs ta be put in place ta avoid future problems." While the committee wauld prefer ta, probibit the ownership of these types of animais, they have ta, accammadate thase people wbo keep them as a seriaus hobby and know how ta care for them. "We would like ta ban them," Batten said, "althaugh we migbt licence them for specifle purpases."Y The PAW committee is alsa concerned about the prablem af wild animaIs that are found- in residential areas.
