It is a Robin Hood Betweeén You and Me By RUTH COLES The Truth is so simple that it is regarded as presentious banality. Dag Hammerarskjold. Why does nature play tricks on us almost every weekend? Grey skies and rain during the week is acceptable and the latter is most necessary for our gardens but just give us blue skies and warmth as the weekends approach. As it is we will be slowed down and far behind when it comes to gardening and cleaning up. Even the idea of spring invigorates, stimulates and promotes a feeling of well being and good wili. For some of us spring is the epitome of everything that is good. To watch nature renew herself is a healing process for everyone and a promise of good toòlcome. In the same vein autumn does this too but in reverse; a time for nature and all growing things to rest and prepare for the renewal of spring which always follows. To 'Watch nature renew itself is a wonder and a process we can all benefit from. Tiny shoots of grass, minute bits of sprouts shooting up through the brown earth gives one a sense of goodness, a feeling of well being that can renew your faith in our own world. Have you ever seen a plant grow? Ferns take precedent over other plants and many a time I have sat quitely and watched as they shoot up at a very slow speed. Not time lapse photography just the normal process of growth. Pine trees give off a form of electricity which can sometimes be seen. No doubt all living things do this including people We all have an aura about us which is a form of an electrical field. Pine trees give off an energy which can be very healing and this was a truth known and accepted by the Indians. This is why we see pictures of Indians sitting against a tree resting their backs on the trunk or standing leaning against tree trunks. Try it, let a sick friend sit under or by a pine tree and see if it helps them. Within a week or so Whitby will blossom forth in all her spring finery. We have wonderful parks; all we need is a beautiful fountain or two. Probably much to expensive to buy and then maintain. Surely we have a resident or two who might be able to design and make one. Years ago, I enquired about church bels pealing at certain times of the day. Maybe at noon and again at six. I was told no because of shift workers. Why I wonder? Do they not sleep through much har- sher sounds. On our way south we found they did this in some cities and towns in New York state. What a calming, soothing sound for everyone to hear including the children. So now a few fountains and church bells to add to the beauty of our town. We may as well distinguish ourselves and not follow in others footsteps. We have a smail shopping centre on Thickson Rd. above Dundas, just north of the fire station. It fascinates me because it is so attractive. Our den- tist, Dr. Lo, a clever and kind man has an office there. Because of him and the shopping centre I mighit add it is a pleasure to go! Attractive offices, ample parking and no stairs to climb, an asset for elderly folk or the handicapped. I would like to see a few professional people move in there of the samne high calibre as Dr. Lo. A lawyer, an accountant and a doctor would find it a pretty fine place to be and this would apply to their patients and clients, too. So many offices are in crowded places and the parking is terrible. By this time next week we will hope for blue skies and warmth. There is much gardening to be done and by the 24th seeds and plants should be put in if it is warm enough.
