Free Press Staff Photo A 74-year old local man is facing weapon charges after police discovered he was carrying a handgun. According to a spoesan for the Durham Regional Police force, patrolling officers arrested a man who appeared Lo be in- toxicated at the Woolco Mail late Saturday evening. The officers then transported him to 17 Division headquarters and searched bim. They found a .32 caliber bullet in one of bis pockets. The weapon subsequen- tly feil to the floor from one of the suspect's pockets. The officers seized a semi-automatic han- dgun and'a clip for amn- munition aswell. Wilfred Pollard, 74, of. Youth,- 12, arrested after, MeNeil break-o ut Poie have ap- prehended six youths who escaped from Mc- Neil House on Simcoe St. S. in the late bours of Sunday evenig. One of-- those ap- prehended was a 12- year old Wbitby youth. According to a spokesman for the Durham Regional Police Department, six of the eigbt youths staying at the juvenile dentention centre over- powered the lone female attendant, tied her* up and locked ber in a closet. Police said that two vehicles were taken and approxinxately $130 in cash and other goods were stolen. The 21-year old atten- dant - a resident of «Ash- burn - was working alone when the escape 'was made. However, shea was .uninjiured despite the fact that she was threatened witb a butcher knife. The two youths who did flot par- ticipate ini the escape freed ber from the closet. Five of the youths were -apprebended within 12 hours of their escape and the sixth was arrested yesterday morning. Both vehicles were also recovered. The youths bave been charged under the Youthful Offenders Act with two counts of theft over $200, forcible con- finement, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, misehief over $20 and escaping -awful custody. The youths were held for a bail hearing and remanded te the Brookside Training School in Cobourg. Brookside is a secure detention centre.
