The Whitby-Garrard Road club sent two teanis to the Royal City Minor Lacrosse Classic held in Guelph last weekend: the peewee 'B' team. sponsored by the ýHideaway and the bantam No. 2 teani. The Bantam No. 2 teani, coached by Tom Santos, loet their first game 4 to il to Sarnia but came back to win 7 to 4 over Wallaceburg. This record put Whitby into the, consolation championship game. Our bantams responded wi*th an il to 4 convin- cing win over Brampton 'c'. The scoringý summary for the tournament la led by Jason Rennick with 14, pairs by Trevor Rands and Mark Higden with singles by Brian Shelfoon, Andrew Van- derlinde, Jason Hyladash and Jim Fawcett. Coach -Santos hopes they can win some more this season. The peewee Hfideaway's started with a 5 to 1 win over Sarnia at the Guelph tour- nament. Whitby scorers were Dan lad ouceur, Brian Grieves, Chris Husted, Chris Van Chief and David Wood. [ose i Last Wednesday might, it took 15 inninga for Whitby to, hand Lin- dsay a 1 toO0loss. The winning pitcher was Randy Underwood who, went the distance allowing six hits while striking out 28 batters. The losing pitcher for Lindsay was, Jeff Hutton who also " went the distance and allowed only three hits. The winning run was scored in the bottom of the lSth inning when Gary Vaughn doubled with two out. He was driven home by Scott Beaithwho, hit a high bouncer to third which was thrown wildly to firat allowing the runner to score. In fact, Vaughn had two of Whitby's three hit contributing a triple and a double to the offensive effort. The other single was hit by Wayne Ownn. Two days earlier, Whitby bast a 1 to 0 decision to the Oshawa Juniors. The local squad ear- ncd five hits to Oshawa'a 4. The losing pitcher was Randy Underwood, in relief of Mark Couth. The winning pitcher was also a rehiever, Brad Vaughn who took over the mound for Brad Baker. Whitby's next two games are June 14 and 20 when thcy are away at Lindsay and Port Perrv. the had 2 marke rs with other markers by Adam Foote, Todd Wilson, Chris Tucker, Derek Jones, Davy Clarke, Julie Kernohan and Rob Paddlck. They were humbled by stiff -competition at the St. Catherines Lacrosse Tournament. Mississauga won 5 to 3 over Checker's Variety. Padclick scored twice and Tueker once. Six-Nation's handed an il to 6 lesson to the Whitby bantanis. Wilson scored two with aingles by Tucker, Foote, Mike Husted and Whittle. Julie Kernohan was the lone scorer in the 1 to 13 thumpingby the St. Catherines Golden Eagles that elimlnated this Whitby team. Thonipson had 3 assista. The second game was almost a shuthout but ended as 'a 9 to 1 win over 'Walaceburg. Grieves scored a hat- trick, Husted twice wlth other markers by Bran- don Smith, Rob Martin, Van Chief and Wood,. Paul Hamilton had 3 assists. The semi-final game came too early at 7:20 a.m. on Sunday mor- ning. Burlington coasted to a 12 to 2 win over the sleeping Whit- by players. Grieves acored on two breakaways for the Hideaway. Ini league play, the- Hideaway peewees beat out Ajax 10 to 4 on pairs of goals by Matt Cook, Chris- Husted, Garrett Campbell and singles by Jason Pitters, Bilan Grieves, Rob Martin and Chris Van Chief. On Thursday at Kin- amen Arena in Peter- borough, they out- classed the host club 9 to 3. Paul, Hamilton, Grieves and Denis Directo had 2 goals each with other scores by Husted, David Wood and Alan Frank. Checker's Variety sponsor the bantam 'A' team that won 9 to 6 in Scarborough.
