Ail of the Whitby scoring came in the seventh inning when, on a Lindsay error, Gary Vaughn was declared safe at second base. Scott Beaith then hit a triple to bring him home. Beaith then scored when Brian Emory contributed a single to the local offen- se. Lindsay's single run response came in the eighth inning when Keith Tamblyn tripled to be driven home b>' pitch hitter Ivan Disney. The winning pitcher was Mark Coutu who earned il strike-outs. Losing was Jeff Hutton who managed a respec- table nine strike-outs. The Legionaires travelled to Lindsay on Thursday night to hand them a 1-0 defeat despite a tight fifth in- ning. The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning when Vaughn doubled with two out. Emory then singled, allowing Vaughn to score the run. However, Lindsay alniost changed their fate in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases on a singe and two walks with onl>' one out. Whitby pitcher Randy Underwood bore down on Lindsay and the next two batters popped out to first base. Two Lindsay attempts to steal second base during the game where throwz1 out by catcher Maurièe Lefebure. Underwood was the winning pitcher, managing seven strike- outs. Wallpapers fight to fin als to suffer defeat to Guildwood The Whitby Lakes Wallpapers entered the Motor City Atoni Soccer Tournament at the Oshawa Civic f ield last week and made it all the way to the finals before suffering defeat at the hands of the side from Guildwood. On the way to the finals, the local side earned a 1-1 tie with Erin Milîs with the Whitby goal coming from Roberto Aibis before shutting out Brampton 3-nil. Scoring for Whitby in that effort were: Mark Wisdom, Ryan Sufrin and Shane Bayford. Before entering the semi-final round, Whit- by blasted the Oshawa Rangers 17-nil. It was Whitby's game all through the match with Shane Bevan con- tributing f ive goals while Aibis produced four. Shawn Heane>' had a hat trick with single goals coming from, Bayford, Frank Stefanowicz, Geoff Caden, Marlon Sookdeo and Wisdom. Whitby faced West Rouge in the semi- finals. Although they defeated their opponent 3-nil, Whitby had to fight for every point. Scoring were Heane>' with two and Wisdom.
