However, here I arn tanned and rested, back in harness and rarin' to go. It's reaily amazing how rejuvenating a week or two of camping can ha. It seema that everyone else came back from holiday just as I was leaving; I wonder if they're trying to teil me something. Anyway I have a backlog of reports on recent events for you. The wlnners of the Best Dressed Nursery Rhyme Contest were Crystal and Bian Grose, Melony God- frey, Eve Maxwell, O.J. Thompson, Michael Batty, Tisha Mehta, Cindy Aston, Natasha Pelgrims, Tif- fany Mclntosh, Morgan McPhee, Jill AIlexander, Sarah Tunney, Tammny Litch, Christine Harper, John Zupo, The Queen of Hearts (Sandra Porco) presented the winners. The Old Womnan Who Lived In a Shoe (Donne~ Fletcher) gave out prizes to Tracey Staples and An- jou Mehta who wonthe Hickory Dickory Dock con- test. Winners of the Bike Derby were: First - Bobby Carney; Second - Amanda Heron; Third - Tammny Leitch. The library's summer programs wind up this week but they'll have a full sehedule of activities for Fail, so watch this space for ail the coming events. BARROW 0F CHEER WINNER The Redmens Wheelbarrow of Cheer draw was won by Gail MacDonald of R.R.4, Bowmanville. Congratulations, Gail. The executive and players wish me to thank ail those who participated to make this annual event such a huge success financially. FALL FASHION SHOW St. Thomas' Anglican ACW 18 holding a Fal Fashion Show in co-operation with the Brooklin Village Shoppe on Sept. 14 beginning at 8 p.m. It wil be held in the gym at Meadowcrest School. TV star opening new day carein Whitby Whitby will soon have tWo new assets in the form of a new day care centre and a local TV star. Wayne Thomas, well known for his long run- ning CHCH TV Ahow 'The Wayne Thomas Show' and numerous other shows including 'The Palace' and more recently at the Ontario Place Forum this sum- mer with Dionne War- wick has not only just recently moved to the area, but is now opening a local day care centre. Mr'. Thomas has operated day care cen- tres for the last 13 years and with his wife Margaret have been running a very suc- cessful school in Scar- borough for the last few years. Mrs. Thomas will be coming to Whitby to personally take charge as the supervisor and director of the new day care centre. Mrs. Thomas has an Early Childhood Education Diploma qualifying. her to teach pre-schoolers, and with nine years experience and a flair for programming has won awards for her specialized' programs from the Board of Education for the men- tally handicapped and from the Scarborough Wayne Board of Education for training teachers in the day care field. Mrs. Thomas says she loves children to the point where her whole working and volunteer life has been involved with children. She especially enjoys tailoring specialized prograrns to the needs of each age group. She believes a day care cen- tre should go far beyond a babysitting service and hence organizes stimulating learning programs along with ex- tra-curricular activities such as theme activities and outings with part-nt FUN FAIR Meadowcrest Parent's Association is holding a Fum Fair and Sports Equipment Exchange on Sept. 28 at the sehool. There will also be a White Elephant Sale. Keep this in mid while you're going through the kids drawers and closets in preparation for the coming school year. The Thomas' told the Free Press that the cen- tre will be open Mohday to Friday, 52 weeks per year except for Canadian Statutory holidays. Three meals per day will be prepared by a competent, nutritionally aware 'Cook. There will be an abundance of toys and equipment and a new clean'and modemn en- vironment.
