PAGE 4, WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 24, 1984', WHITBY FREE PRESS AUTO GUIDE 1985 6000 and 6000 STE. 1985 PONTIAC 6000 STE OSHAWA, Ont.-- Pontiac's popular 6000 con- tinues to offer a distinctive blend of spirit and sophistica- tion in 1985, with the 6000 STE leading the lune as one of North America's most ex- citing road cars. Pontiac 600 buyers have a choice of four engines in 1985: a new multi-port fuel in- jected 2.8 litre V6 is standard on the STE ;and available on ail 6M00; a carbureted 2.8 litre V6 is available on al models except the STE; and the imporved "Tech IV" 2.5 litre four-cylinder is standard on the 6000'and 60 00 LE; the 4.3 litre diesel V6 is available on ail models except the STE Newly available for '85 is a four-speed automatic tran- saxle, avaîlable with- either 2.8 litre V6 powered 6000 ex- cept the STE, which keeps its own 'high-performance transmission shift calibra- ion. Standard transmission for al 6000s is a three-speed automatic with a lock up tor- que converter. Pontiac's 1985 6000 STE features a new front and rear look with side view changes as well. Mechanically, vehicle performance has been in- creased with a new multi-port fuel-injected 2.8 litre V6 engines, whîch makes the 6000 flagship a real road performer. The new front fascia design, with its wide bumper rub strip, gives the STE a sub- tle new look and incorporates full-width neutral density taillamps and lights. Border wide-body side moldings will better protect the car from nicks and scratches. Inside the STE, the com- pletely electronic instrument cluster with the Driver Infor- mation Centre remains stan- dard. Changes include the ad- dition of color in the cluster to graphically improve it's readability and the addition of warm-réd night-time lighting. The STE retains its stan- dard seat with the manual six-way driver and passengçr seat adjusters. Power seats, with power recliners, will be an available option in 1985. Otherý new features include the top-of-the-line touch con- trol Pontiac performance sound system with graphic equalizer, sun visor storage and a Pallex cioth trimmed front centre armrest. With the additon of six-way power seats and power recliners, a total of four STE options are available in 1985 for the customer. Other options in- clude color, cloth or leather seats'and a sunroof. A new selection of six two-tone paint combinations also will be available on the STE. - The 6000 sports new front and rear fascias in 1985. Com- plementing the fascias is a new horizontal theme grille treatment. European-style ribbed bumper rub strîps and extensions with integral side marker lamps. Pontiac also offers six new two-tone color combinations. Inside, three instrument panel clusters are offered this year, each with new backlit graphics, a very visible and dramatic change. A basic cluster design,, with speedomneter, fuel and telîtale driver information, is stan- dard on the 6M00and LE, with an analog gauge clust»er available, and an electronic cluster available with the 1.8 litre VOs. The 6000 wagon, introduc- ed last year, proved to be a contemporary, mid-sized ad- dition to Pontiac's family of wagons. Featuring attractive styling, frornt-wheel-drlve traction and good fuel economy, the wagon offers two trim levels, an optional rear facing third seat, towing, capacity up to 907 kilograms (2,000 pounds) with ap- propriate heavy duty equip- ment, woodgrain siding and a choice of rear window wind- shield wiper or wind deflector. 1985 Grand Prix Available in three models-the Grand Prix, LE and Brougham--the aerodynamic Grand Prix represents Pontiac's mont ex- pressive. personai luxury coupe. A distinctive new grille, rear taillamps, interior trim colors, fourth generation ail- weather steel belted radial tires, two-town sport paint, turbo finned cast aluminum wheels, firm foam custom' cushion bucket seats and a new fuel tank assembly with improved interior corrosion protection from alcohol fuels highlight standard and op- tional changes in features for '85. Nine new paint colors give Grand Prix customers a choice of 12 colors in ail. The popular Delco 2000 series AM radio coupled with a new fixed mast antenna is standard for 1985 and resuits in outstanding reception. This series of electronically tuned sound systems is available in the Gi-and Prix for the first time. The sound system incor- porates new IP radio face plates, separate bass and tre- ble controls, separate balance (F/R) and fade (side to side) controls, 12 watts perchne audio power, noise reduction circuitry and a trimmerless i antenna circuit. The Delco 2000 series music systems repjresent stat 'e-of-th e art microprocessor-controlled ~ frequency syntheized tuning. The standard engine in the Grand Prix is the 3.8 litre l V6 with a three-speed automatîc transmission. Op- tional engine is the 5.0 litre VS gas with three or four-speed automatic transmissions.
