IThis is particularly true iif water has been added from time to time. Rust inhibitors, generaily an ingredient in permanent anti- freeze solutions, tend to S"break down, causing an accumulation of rust and scale. Therefore, to insure against .permanent iengine damage due to overheating, a spring flushing and installation 0fJ nvew coolant is recommended. The Coundil lists other basic services for keeping cooling systems li top condition. They include: Cbecking the radiator and hoses for leaks un- der pressure. To handle the 60 per- cent increase in hor- sepower supplied by the new twin cam 16 valve engine, extensive development work was done on the suspension. Tests were conducted on racetracks in Europe, the. United States and Japan. The outcome was a nearly 20 percent stif- fening 0f both front and rear spring rates over that of the Corolla SR5 and a 14 percent in- crease in the ciameter of the rear stabilizer bar. The resuit is a slightly stiffer, but a more sporty ride and a car that corners con- fidently on any road sur- face. 1 "We've managed to package an awful lot of fun into an affordable car. It's part sports car, part economical ^com- muter car,"y states Hec- tor Dupuis. .The suspension was specially tuned to work with the GT-S low profile 185/60HR tires which allow. less sidewall flex during tight cornering and high« speed maneuvering. The tires are mounted on 14, inch aluminum alloy wheels, available in gold or silver depen- ding upon the extero colour. The 'spare tire 18 also a full sized version. Power assisted four- wheel disc brakes with ventilated front rotors are standard. Driver comfort is an additional feature in this machine. The stan- dard multi-adjustable sport seat features an adjustable air lumbar support system similar to that found in the Supra, along with ad- instable side boîsters, seat cushion helght ad- justment and reclining seatback. FullIin- strumentation, in- cluding a tachometer, 240 km/h speedometer, 011 pressure and water temperature gauges are ail standard. A leather- wrapped steering wheel and shift knob complete the performance look and feel of the GT-S. While the exterior of the GT-S bears a strong family ressemblance to the 1985 SR5, it's the lit- tde things that count. A front air dam on the GT- S Coupe reduces the drag coefficient from .41 for the '85 SR5, to .37 for the GT-S. The GT-S Lîf- tback also has a rear spoiler and a further reduced drag coefficient of .35.
