w SPORTS WEEK Ri*nce, dumped as Lawmen coach by new owners Rick Bince has been flred as the co ach of the Whitby Lawmen. Bince was told of his termination on Thur- sday mornlng. According to Shaune Lucas, Bince was fired at the request of several new owners of the club. The own ers, .who Lucas declined to name, wanted full decision making powers before they entered the club. One ,0f the factors determining their en- trance was the ter- -mination of Rick Rince *as coach 'and general manager. The reason for the termination was largely due to financial com- mitments. The Whitby Lawmen have the largest payroll in the league since it pays for room and board for almost two thirds of its players. Bince was paid a full time salary, the only team in the league to pay its coach a, full time salary. "With the highest payroll-we can't ýafford to be the second from the bottom in the league standings," explained Lucas. There was also a question of Bince's Ioyalty. "Rick was a very ambitious and aggressive person and it became a question of who was doing what for whomn," Lucas said. Rince was neyer of- ficially hired as coach of the Lawmen. Rince inherited the job frm Bill Purcell who could no longer stay with the Lawnien due to other professional commit- ments. MPP (PC - Durham West) Minister of Government Services Ontario A booklet has recently been published by the Mimistry of the Attorney General to help young people cope With their parents? separation or divor- ce. "'Since it is a fact that about one in four marriages end in divorce or separation, the Ministry has taken the lead in assisting children of separated parents to understand the legal implications of this situation," said Attorney General Roy McMurtry. 'Where Do I Stand?' has been prepared par- ticularly for young people between the- ages of 10 and 16. This whimsically illustrated bookiet an- swers such questions as: "What do divorce and separationmean?" "Do I have to move?" "What will happen to my brothers and sisters? " "DolI have to testify in court?" Included are a dictionary of legal terms, and a suggested bibliography for fur- ther reading. "I'm particularly proud of this project since it was in response to a need that was brought directly to our attention by young people, " said McMurtry. Alexandra Cork, a high sehool student, and daughter of Master David Cork of the Supremfe Court of Ontario, initiated the project. She was con- tinually coming home with questions from her friends regarding their parents' separation and divorce. Cork is involved in family law matters, and was able to provide answers. Alexandra's questions, which were brought to the attention of the ministry through Cork, became the basis for the book. In a recent interview, Alexandra said that she is gratified with the book, particularly since it helped clear misunderstandings among young people who tended to blame themselves because of their Iack of knowledge of the system. Headings in the book include such subjeets as: "Custody", "When Parent's Don't Agree", "Paren- ts' New Partners", "Money Issues", and "Getting Help"; and questions such as "Will I be separated from my brothers and sisters? " and "Do I have any say about visiting arrangements? " are answered in clear, straightforward style. The bookiet is available through my riding office at 37 Station Plaza, Ajax, or cail 683-6707 to receive a copy. DID YOU KNOW? CMCARELTD.
