The Black Hawks The following are the resuits of last week's play by teanis of, the Brooklin Whitby Minor Hockey Association. In representative teani play: The Whitby Minor Bantam Select travelled to the Belleville Clean Sweep Tournament last week. In their firat game, they downed the Belleville select squad 7-3 on goals by Jason HIunt, Brad, Moore, Bilan Duff (2), Peter Defina, Mike Thom and K-evin Mead. They won their second game - againat the Belleville Saco Majors 4-1 on goals by Kevin Washer, Hunt, Andrew Carroll and John Sholnik. Whitby clinched the tournament champion- ship when they once again defeated the Belleville select team, this time by the narrow margin of 5-4. Scoring in that effort came from Washer, Shawn Beatty, Moore and Mead (2), whoscored the winner in sudden death over- time. Whitby also found time t0 work their way to the championship finals in the Pickering tournament last week. They opened their ef- forts here with a 9-2 route of Scarborough Malvern on goals by Skolnik, Hunt, Duff (2), Washer, Moore 12), Defina (2). They then beat West Hill 3-1 in the semi-final on goals by Moore (2) and Duff. However, they bast the championship 10 Wex- ford in the second period of sudden death over- time 4-3 despite having comeback fromn a three goal deficit in the third period. Scoring for Whitby were Moore and Duff (2). The Eastway Plymouth Chrysler minor peewee teami doubled the LN.H.L. Canadians 6-3 last week on goals by Rob Martin (2). Drew Myers, Shawn Keogan, Derik Ellis and Greg Fawcett. However, they lost their next game 7-4 to Unionville. Scoring for Whitby in. that effort were- Ellis and Matt Shearer (3). The Kristina Lee's atom squad downed Ajax 5-0 on goals by, Jordi Johnson (3), Gord Plumber and Geoff Cadan. The Checker's Variety atom squad beat Peterborough 3-1 on goals by Cameron Poland, Brett Rayne and Paul Moore. However, they lost to Ajax 3-2. Mark Babony scored both Whitby goals. Checker's then went on to earn a 4-aIl tie with Markham. Scoring were Skating Members of the Whit- by Figure Skating Club's precision skating teama put in a solid per- formance at the fifth annual International Precision Skating Coni- petition that was held at the Iroquois Park Arena recently - The Whitby Ice Pics earned second place in the pre-novice event behind The Young Con- nection of Unionville, Ont. The Whitby Ice Angels took first place in the novice event, beating two other Brian Medeiros, Rayne, Adam McLeod and Scott MacDonnell. Markham then beat Checker's 7-4. Scoring for Whitby were Moore, Jamie Pogson and Brodie Richards (2).- The novice Hideaway team lost to Ajax 5-3. Scoring for Whitby*Were Jim Browýn and Pýaul Brooks (2). The Whitby atom select teamn beat the Scarborough Cougars twice last week. They downed themn 6-4 on goals by Jeff Thorne, Trevor Blinke, Mark Wisdom and Steve Malanka. In the return match, Whitby won 7-2 on goals by Wayne Stevenson, Blinke, Wisdom, Malanka (2), Mke winners teams. In the junior event, the Whitby Ice Crystals took f irat place in a field of eight teams. The Whitby Senior teamn came second in the senior event be hind Edmonton Senior of Edmonton, Aberta. And in the masters event, Whitby again took firat place. There were ap- proximately 400 akatera competing, ,represen- ting 23 teams f rom clubs in southern Ontario, Alberta and Western Quebec.
