Carol Gabourie Cooper, of Meadow Cres., made the off er to Whitby Town Council's operations committee at its meeting last week. "'Fran the Toad" and the "Anti-Pollutes of Donber Creek" bave been previously used by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and the Ontario Ministry of Education in their effor- ts to promote recycling and other anti-pollution programs. Some 150,000 copies of a coloring book designed, drawn and written by Cooper en- titled "Solutions to Pollution with the Anti- Pollutes of Doober Creek" were distributed to school children by the provincial governmeflt in 1979. To a letter to the committee, Cooper also suggested the following slogan for the recycling program; 'Whitby Cares - Recycle. Be an Anti-Pollute". "lit is psychologically important to involve and interest the town- speople on the above points," she said, "As a Whitby resident of 30 years, 1 have always feit Whitby to be a warm and caring community, therefore 'Whitby Cares' gives a feeling of home and security. " Cooper said that her characters are something 4"children and involve themselves with" and make them more aware of the need to recycle and prevent pollution. However, while she is willing to donate her characters and artwork to the town for the pilot recycling projeet, she told the committee that she would like to be compensated if the Scottish'bakery opens Mayor Bob Attersley (centre) was piped by Archie McKenzie of Oshawa last Sa' opened the Scottish Bake Shop.
