The bant.am teams were ail "A" rated wlth Brampton coming ln as the best for that age group. The Whtby bantams, sponsored by Checkers Variety, played four games to take them loto the finals. Game one against Carkson resulted in a 11-6 wn for Whltby. The game against the favoured Brampton team saw a bass for Whtby 3-10. The bant.ams then edged past Owen Sound 12-11, only to meet them again i.n the semi-finals and beat themn out 7-3. The final game for the championship was played againat and bast to Brampton with a score of 4-12. Goalscorers for Whit- by over the five game tournament were Jef f Whittle with 13 goals, Todd Wilson with 8 goals, Mark Ainsworth netted 5 goals, Adam Foote found the net 4 times with Brian Shelfoon adding 3 goals, Greg Renfle, Chris Vanclief, Chris Tucker and Chris Husted al scored single goals. The Whitby midgets sailed through their tournament winning ail games fromn start to finish with good goaltendlng from Chris Fowlie and excellent team play in ail facets of the ganie. Having one three straight games, the Whitby midgets entered the semi-finals against Kitchener and won with a 9-2 decision. The final champion- ship game was played against Brampton, and Witby took the game 13-7. The Tyke Redmen and the Kinsmen Novice teams spend the weekend in Brampton showing them what kind of lacrosse Whitby can play. Game one for the Tykes was against Hamilton and they were trounced by a 1-15 score with Gavin Prout scoring Whitby's lone goal. The second game against Scarborough was a winner for Whitby 11-5 as was game three over Mississauga 14-4. Accumulated goals for Whitby went to Derek Wright with 14,, Gavin Prout with 4 goals, Jeremy Brown added 3, Chris Shannon netted a pair and singles were added by Michael Rowland and Shawn Kearns. The tykes entered the semi-finals against Burlington suffering elimination with a 1-8 loas. Derek Wright scorecl for Whitby assisted by Tyler Derks and Chris Shannon. The Kinsmen novice fared better, playing some of the most exhilarating lacrosse of their season. They had excellent quality goaltending throughout from Jamie Hogel and Davie Powers. Whitby swept four of five games starting with game one against Hamilton and a 9-3 vic- tory. Game two was played against the home team and resulted in a suprising score of 9-1. The third game was taken from the Beaches 6-2 putting Whitby into the semi-finals wth Etobicoke. Redmen fali to second place Two back-to-back basses to Peterborough have sent the Brooklin Redmen to second place in the Ontario Lacrosse Association's major junior 'A' acrosse league. Brooklin lost to Peterborough 7-3 on home turf on June 8 as well as the return engagement in Peter- borough two days later. The Rednien were downed 12-8 in that ef- fort. Brooklin is now in second place behind Peterborough. Their 10 points are the resuit of a five-win, two-loss record. Peterborough, with 14 pointa, has iost only one of their last eight games. However, Brooklin has a game in hand. The Redmen travel to Brampton tomorrow and return home Satur- day to take on Owen Sound. That game will bc played in the Luther Vipond Memorial Arena beginning at 8 p.m. Meanwhile, the Minto Cup champion Whitby Warriors are still chasing St. Catherines for the first place spot on the O.L.A. 's junior 'A' league. The Warriors have 18 points, four behind St. Kitts and have earned a 91 record so far this season. They have two games in hand over the league leaders. In their ten games to date, the Warriors have scored 172 goals and have only allowed 81 to be scored against themn. This makes them a bet.
