B RGOr'K1l N ELECTRO"NICS (Hwy. 12 North of Taunton) famiy' is always a great cop-out such as "I've got the sanie nase as great-uncle Henry and he always snores in church too" or "No wonder I'm absent- minded, second cousin Sarah twice-removed is 50 absent-minded she once forgot one of ber children and didn't miss him until tbe next reunion 1" 0f course, tbey bave their good points as well sucb as putting a suspicious busbands mind at rest wben be discovers tbat there are several otber red beads in is wife's family as weil as junior and be can start baving the milk deivered again. One of the worst aspects of these occasions is the elderly relative with the long memory. Tbe old dear toddles up to some fortyisb respectable business man and exclaîms "Se you're Jack's littie boy, tbe last time I saw you, you bad long hair and a beard, kept banding out iove-beads and asking everyone to drop-out and join your commune" - in front of bis kids too 1 Then tbere's always tbe unpleasant sbock that cames with running into the bandsome uncle everyone said you're the spittin' image of oniy to find tbat he naw weigbs three bundred pounds and is as bald as an eagle. Or to have spent several tbousand dollars having your nase fixed and your teetb straigbtened only to have everyone tell you youbhaven't changed a bit. Se don't attend family reunilons unless you're prepared ta bhave your ego deflated and above ail don't take the kids unless you were the perfect angel wben you were young that you've been teliing tbem you were. But do by ail means go ta your spouse's next reunion if you're looking for ammunitian for your next spat. It should be a goid mine! Rein Verrydt, 50, o! Winchester Rd. E. told the Free Press Monday nigbt that the major platfarm of bis election campaign will dea1 with Whitby's need for more recreatianal facilities - especialiy in Braoklin. He is also critical of council's averaîl per- formance ta date. 11I don't fuel that the councillors are daing sucb a gaad job," Verrydt said. - "«Too many tbings are decided privately, not publically." The 30year Whitby resident also maintains that Witby has insu!- ficient recreational facilities ta serve her ever growing population. "They are short on everything," Verrydt said adding that there are 10 soccer teams in Braoklin that have no where ta play. Ail soc- cer fields available ta them are on private property. "There are no recreation facilities at à1l in Brooklin,' ha said. Verrydt also dlaimns that the Luther Vipond Memorial Arena is wholiy inadequate and in need of major renovation work. He noted that at least one of the dressing rooms is always damp because its ceiling bas a leak. Verrydt also wants ta see sewers brougbt ta Broaklit as quickly as possible and is critical of council for not taking action sooner. "I'd like ta see cauncil work a littie barder on getting sewers up bere," be said adding that whiie council bas been waiting for sewers, roads have been ieft in a state of disrepair. "They don't want ta fix the streets before they get the sewers," Verrydt said. "It seems ta be a chicken before the egg problem. " The iack of sewers is aiso causing pollution in the creek because, far tao often, septic tanks overfiow. "But you neyer hear anything about sewers in Brooklin anymore," Vèrrydt said. While ha was critical ce as a wbole, be didn't seem too critîcal of current north ward Coun. Ross Batten. III don't see too Imuch publicity on wbat be's doing," Verrydt said adding, II ardly know the man." if elected ta council, Verrydt promises that be is "1prepared ta put a lot of time" into the job.
