PAGE 13 MORE COMING EVENTS lili||u | PRE-SCHOOL STORIES The Whitby Public Library will be accep- ting registration for its pre-school story hour for children aged 3 to 5 (but not attending school) beginning Sept. 17. This eight week program will be held in two different sessions beginning Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 2 to 3 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 17 from 10 to 11a.m. The library will also be offering a French language pre-school story hour on Wed- nesdays from Oct.. 16 to Dec. 4. This program is designed to introduce children to the French language through stories, songs, games and crafts. Children will learn numbers, colors, and simple words and phrases. The fee for this program is $15 and registration will be ac- cepted beginning Sept. 10. BOOKBASH The Whitby Public Library will continue its "Bookbash" story program for children aged 20 to 35 months beginning Oct. 16. This eight week program will be held every Wednesday in three sessions beginning at 9:45, 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. All children par- ticipating in the program must be ac- companied by an adult. Registration for this program will be accep- ted beginning Sept. 19 at the children's desk. RECOVERY PANEL Recovery Inc. - The Association of Nervous and Former Mental Patients - will sponsor a panel discussion on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. at the Y.W.C.A., 199 Centre St. S., Oshawa. MEETING The next meeting of the Durham Region branch of the United Empire Loyalists will be held on Sept. 12 beginning with a tour of the Scugog Shores Museum, Port Perry, at 6 p.m. The tour will be followed by a home cooked supper served by the auxiliary of the Pioneer Church at 7 p.m. Admission to the museum is $1 and din- ner costs $6. The show will be held at Heydenshore Pavilion as part of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce's Jamboree. The doors will open at 9:30 a.m. and the displays will be mostly of new items but will also boast some an- tiques. All were either made or collected by local seniors. Admission to the show is free. APRIL AND SUSAN April and Susan, from the popular C.B.C. television children's program "Mr. Dress- up" will perform in the auditorium of the Whit- by Public Library on Sept. 21 at 2:30 p.m. This imaginative, en- tertaining and educational show is suitable for children aged 3 to 10. The program is available in four categories: pre-school; Delta Drawing (ages 6 and 7); Logo (ages 8 to 10) and, Graphics (ages 10 to 14). The cost ranges from $35 for the pre-school program to $45 for the others. Classes will start the week of Oct. 14 and run until the week of Dec. 2. BABYSITTING The local branch of the Canadian Red Cross will once again be of- fering their babysitting course to young people age 12 and over in the program room of the Whitby Public Library. The course will be held every Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. from Sept. 17 to Nov. 5. The fee is $8 and registration is currently being accepted at the library. ART CLASS The Whitby Senior Citizens' Activity Cen- tre will hold an art class this fall for its members providing there is suf- ficient interest. The only expense to members will be cost of materials. The course will be taught by Fred Watson. Anyone interested is asked to call the centre at 668-1424. Membership in the centre is available to seniors aged 55 and over at a cost of $4 a year. SEMINAR A "Beat the Federal Budget" seminar will be held at the Whitby Public Library on Sept. 25from7 to8:30 p.m. Topics to be discussed include: how to pay less tax on your investment income; how to profit from the capital gains tax exemption; how to earn up to $500,000 tax free; and, how to use the bank's money to get a tax deduction.
