The FramIng Cnntre 668-4521 vocal supporter of for- mer premier Frank Miller's bid for the Tory party leadership last year. After a few mon- ths of political upheaval during which the Tories lost their 42-year old on power, Ashe believes that the upcoming con- vention will be an oppor- tunity for the party to renew itself in preparation for the next election. (The convention will be held at the Toronto Convention Centre on Nov. 15 and 16.) And Grossman, Ashe said, is the man the Tories should turn to in that renewal process. "Larry Grossman has armed himself with the date and information necessary to establish credible answers to the social and economic challenges of the future," he said. There have been two more break-ins in the business community and three more cars have been vandalized in the past week. The program, when implemented, should eliminate a great deal of the petty crime. Residents should be on the alert for anything out of the or- dinary on their street. The only way to combat crime is to be prepared. Get to know your neigh- bour, watch their homes when they are away, lock your car in the driveway and remember to lock your doors, especially patio doors. Unlocked doors, are an invitation to would be thieves. Your street captain will be calling on you with in- formation regarding neighbourhood watch, we need everyone to become involved for their protection as well as your own. Welcome your neighbourhood watch captain when he or she calls on you. WESTMINSTER UNITED CHURCH Turkery Supper - October 26 at the church. You see, a few calls from you parents did help! It really doesn't do any good to complain amongst yourselves, direct your pet peeves to their proper authorities. "Ordinary runner" will try to break magic 3 hour mark CONT'D FRONI PG. 5 finished the race. She got up and started again. She completed that one in 3:03 (just slightly more than seven minutes a mile) -- the second woman. She won six trophies, including best first marathon, best husband and wife, and best team. To put that in perspective -- and I must, despite my promise to Ann not to try to make her out to be a hot-shot -- the Canadian record for Women's Masters is held by Diane Palmason of Ottawa at 2:40 plus a few seconds. No one is predicting that Ann will break that record on Sunday. But 2:55 looks within reach and she admits to wanting to break that magic mark of 3 hours. In the meantime she's trying not to let other people's excitement bother her. She runs for fun, and has a fear that running for numbers might spoil that. Unlike most other runners, for example, she doesn't even keep track of her weekly miles. She feels it puts too much pressure on each week to match or exceed the one before. "I have two running watches," she said, "and i never wear them." But now this "ordinary runner" is attempting to keep butterflies at bay before Sunday's race while still weighing the possibilities of joining a serious club, and getting a serious coach. To her, that seems to be like the cook and the souffle and the rabbits. She has done respectably well in races so far without a coach, without serious training, sim- ply by running for fun - usually at 6 a.m. each weekday. She admits ta being afraid that taking her running seriously would take the fun out of it. Sort of like thinking of rabbits. Sunday she'll be trying not ta think of the coaching, the clubs, the sponsors. Just running her best on a given day and hoping everything works out well. Here's betting it does. 668-7446 a i olk NEW NAILS....s30.0 NAIL FILLS....$15.0 DURHAM WEST PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE ASSOCIATION SPECIAL MEETING TO SELECT DELEGATES TO LEADERSHIP CONVENTION WEDNESDAY,OCT. 2,1985 7:30 P.M. One of the church's ministers, Rev. Joseph E. Sanderson, was a prin- cipal supporter in the establishment of the On- tario Ladies College (now Trafalgar Castle School) in 1874. In 1876, the church was closed when the Methodists completed their new, much larger Tabernacle (now St. Mark's United Church). Architectural The former Methodist Church was originally built in a simple Greek Revival style. Il was converted to residential purposes in 1877. At that time, many late-Victorian details were added such as bay win. dows, carved brackets and decorative wooden porches. The juxtaposition of the two styles has produced a unique and interesting architectural composite. DATED at the Town of Whitby this 25th day of September, 1985. Donald G.
