!PAGE 14WEDNESDAYOCTOBER l6, 1985,WHITBY FREE PRESS The Church Speaks Sponsored by the WHITBY MINISTERIAL ASSOlCIATION Th e so-ngf of Mooses By THE REV. RON FISHER Pastor Hebron Christian Reformed Church What is today's hit tune? Is it a happy song or one of sadness, a song of love or a song of war? Or are you stili singing the it tunes of yesterday? What do you sing about? We sing about lots of things: littie ditties about toothpaste and deodorants, beverages and automobiles. We sing about our nation, about the past remembered with nostalgia, about a future filled with hopes or despair. We sing about our loves, our joys, and our sorrows. Moses in Exodus 15:2 sang about the Lord. He sang: "<The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation..." We should under- stand his song, for it is one we will all sing someday, Yes, Revelation 15:3 states: "And they sing (in heaven) the song of Moses, the servant of God... Yes, Moses sang of victory, of destruction and death. But he was not simply gloating over the fate of Pharoah and bis Egyptian army, nor was lie ex- pressing a false national pride. No! Rather Moses sang of the Lord's mighty liberating deeds. Yes, the Lord had delivered His people from slavery in Egypt. The Lord had been faithful to His promises. 'For the Lord had once promised His people their own land (Genesis 15.13f) and now no power on earth, not even the mightiest empire of that time, could stand in the way of that promise of God. Egypt tried to stand in the way, but she was defeated. And Israel rejoiced in God's salvation! That is why the Lord is the objeet of song. He is good to His people and He helps them in their needs. His promises to them are always fulfilled because there is no one on earth strong enough to stop Hlm. Yes, the Lord is the King who reigns forever 1 That is why in this Thanksgiving season we also sing about the Lord. He has been good to us. His promises have been fulfilled in Jesue Christ. Yes, Jesus Christ came, suffered, died, arose, ascended to heaven, and sent His Holy Spirit into the Churchi; that is, into the hearts and lives of His people. 1 Are you one of His people? Do you believe that Jesus Christ suffered and died and arose from the death also for your sins? Believe God's Word. Ac- cept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. And He will send His Holy Spirit into your heart and life too. Yes, lie liberated, be saved froni sin and death and bell. And then you, too, will sing about the Lord! Shouldn't He lie the theme of our song today? FOLLOW THE MAP-TO ~2930 BAYLY ST. E. (1k Mlle East of Harwood Ave.) ;AJAX 4001 a 0 - -l BAYLYI ST. E.
