According to a spokesman for the Durham Regional Police Force, Scott Ar- tner, 16, of Goodfellow St. was assigned to paint steel beams by bis supervisor at the Ryder Tool Co. on Charles St. Police said that the 14- foot long beams, weighing 700 pounds each, were stacked in the rear of the com- pany's plant and were only to be moved with the use of a crane which the victim was told not to operate. However, it appears that the victim attem- pted to use the crane and when he did so he dropped one of the beams on his right foot. He was taken to the Dr. J.O. Ruddy General Hospital where it was discovered that he had lost 2½/ toes on his right foot. The accident occured last Thursday after- noon.
