Because of the fact that the "electric" gymnasiumdoors would not open or close, and because they were therefore "stuck" half- way between the two gym walls, we were unable to gather the Thursday before Thanksgiving for our celebration of the Eucharist. Thanks- giving Mass was post- poned until Oct. 17. One meeting that was not postponed was that of the Amnesty Inter- national Club. Remem- ber - ail students are welcome to join this particular club. Its pur- pose is to help free vie- tims of conscience through letter writing. The sports teams at DO'C are bursting with news of their winsl During the past two weeks the senior boys' soccer team bas played and defeated Dunbarton High School (2-0) and Harwood Vocational (3- 0). The guys nave oniy to beat one more tean - Port Perry High School - Halloween Dance set for Oct. 25 By JENNIFER KLAREN Henry Street H.S. This year Henry's graduation is on Nov. 8. The grade 12 students who come back for grade e 13 will be graduating in the after- noon and the 13 and 12 students that left for future endeavours will be graduating during the evenng, followed by a dance (tickets can be bought at the door, at Heydenshore Pavilion). Right now we are in the middle of mid-tern exams. But to relieve tension there will be a Halloween dance, Friday, Oct. 25 (you can dance your blues away!). Cookie sale awards will be'given out next week. Good luck! Any Henry students interested in going to the production of Cats, there are very few tickets left, but the remaining tickets that are available, see Mr. Brady or Mr. Presley for more information. And lastly all you seniors planning on university, remember you have very little time to make up your mind as to where you would like to go and apply. You only have a couple of weeks to buy your yearbook. Get yours now! Happy Halloween i 2 arrested i break-i Police have arrested two men in connection with a breakcand enter at Valles Fruit Market on Highway 12, just south of Brooklin. Durham Regional Police said James Heickert, 23 and Dale Wilson, 27 were ap- prehended at the scene as they were making off with $12,000 worth of cigarettes and cigars. The arrest occurred at 4:11 Saturday mor- ning. Each man was charged with break and enter with intent, breach of probation and possession of burglary tools. Way to go! The junior boys' soc- cer team is following the lead of the seniors beating both Dunbarton High School and Har- wood Vocational with scores of 4-2 and -6-0, respectively. For a first year team, the girls' field hockey club is.doing more.than in their division and therefore qualified for LOSSA. The girls played in this all-day tour- nament on Oct. 16; here, they were consolation winners. Congratula- tions on a great season, ladies. Upcoming events at DO'C include Halowe'en activities and an outing to Toronto for the French Club. Turkey Trot a succes More than 200 people turned out for Durham College's eighth annual Turkey Trot fundraiser last weekend. The races, held every year just before Halloween, netted approximately $400, ail of which will go to the United Way Cam- paign. Sunday's events in- cluded two 5-kilometre races for children and two 10-kilometre races for adults, The winners were.: Boys 5-kilometre race - first place: Clair Cor- nish from Port Perry with a time of 16 minutes and 43 seconds; second place:- Matt Shearer from Whitby with a time of 16 minutes and 55 seconds; third place: Evan Williams from Whitby with a time of 18 minutes and 33 seconds. Girls 5-kilometre race - first place: Kerfti Poupard from Oshawa with a time of 18 minutes and 13 seconds; second place: Lindsay Puttkewich from Blackstock with a time of 20 minutes and 36 seconds; third place: Leeanne Gibdins from Oshawa with a time of 20 minutes and 46 seconds. Mens 1O-kilometre race - first place: Kevin Dillon from Oshawa with a Turkey Trot record-breaking time of 30 minutes and 28 seconds; second place: Ken Buckley - from Pickering with a time of 32 minutes and 15 seconds; third place: Andy Zeltkans front Toronto with a time of 32 minutes and 16 seconds. Womens 10-kilometre race - first place: Barb Dillon from Osh'wa with a Turkey Trot record-breaking time of 38 minutes and 38 seconds; second place: Linda Beafand from Oshawa with a time of 44- minutes and 44 seconds; thirdaplace; Gailyn Shepperd from Oshawa with a time of 44 minutes and 57 seconds. Prize winners for the best-dressed non-turkey (those who didn't run in the races but came min Hloween costume) Mary Taylor , Greg Thomas, and John Campbell.
