WHITI3Y FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY. DECEMBER 18. 1985 PAGE 23 Anderson, Henr'y Street, Denis, O'Connor Ws"HIGH SCHOOL NEWS WEEK By JENNY KLAREN Henry Street H.$. We seem to overlook the most dedicated people around us. The people who are always willing to take time, and listen; give up their own time and put an effort towards making things right. They attend each meeting and fight for things worth fighting for. The people who brave authority and challenge opposition; who see everyone is happy. Who else could I be talking about, but the students executive. These are the people who think of the new types of activities. These are the people who workÎ so hard 50 there are dances on a regular basis. (So John- ny can ask that gorgeous girl, in his math class, to the next dance.) Without our executive, Henry would be one boring schooll1 The executive con- sists of Rob Wies as president, Stephanie Spicer as vice- president, Anma Argan- ta as secretary, Wendy Yoon as the treasurer and assistant treasurer Dave Doggan. The reason ýI decided to write about the student council executive, is something I happened to over hear one day that was quite disturbing 1 1The semi-formal was al,.set for Dec. 6, but just before it was can- celled. As I made my way to my class 1 heard some grade 12 students (whom I1 thought were Rob's loyal followers) say some very insulting things. They were com- plaining and saying that Rob neyer does anything right and student council were plain lazy. Well, I was disgusted - at this, mainly because one of these people was a student council home form repi I would like these people to know, that Rob had nothing to do with the semi being cancelled, and he has had it reschedui.ed later in the new year! We should appreciate that, Rob and the gang have done many things for us. Things such as having our juke box returned, having a suc- cessful United Way sale. of stuffed animals, sponsored ail athletic teams and new cheerleaders uniforms and much more! Also, the girls in the caf. would like to thank everyone who par- ticipated in the Christ- mas dinner on Dec. 17. It was a great success. Merry Christmas to everyone and lIl be back in the new year. Jen. By KAREN SPENCE Anderson Colegiate Once again the student council has provided an array of ac- tivities. and events for the student body to look forward to in the weeks before the Christmas holidays. These events range from the dance on Friday, Dec. 13, to the Christmas assembly on Friday, Dec. 20. On Friday, Dec. 13, a semi-formal dance was held from 8 to 1: 30 p.m. The dance was disc jockeyed by the Great Canadian Rock and Roll Show. The cost was $4 in advance and $8 at the door. For those of us who have been patiently awaiting the arrivai of last year's yearbooks, there is some good news. The books will be shipped out from -Win- nipeg on Dec. 16. This means we cari soon recapture ail those fond memories of yesteryear of people, places and events that bring a smile to our faces. The 1985-86 yearbook is now on sale for $16 with an additional $3 if one wants one's name engraved in it. A children's Christ- mas party organized by the A.S.A.A. for children and gran- dchildren of staff wil take place on Dec.'17. Games such as the trampolene, basketball and floor hockey are set Up for the children in the gyms. Dinner will con- sist of hot dogs, chips and desserts, after which Santa Claus will make a visit. Each of the participating staff member has previously paid a smnall fee and has deposited a gift for his child which Santa will gladly distribute on par. ty night. The kids are sure to love it!1 A canned goods food drive will run for the next couple of weeks in homerooms in order to collect food for the needy of our com- munity. The drive wil make some people very happy this Christmas while it will enable students of Anderson to enjoy the gift of giving. Homerooms are also donating a stuffed animal or toy to under- privileged children who may not otherwise get a gif t this Christmas. The toys will be displayed on stage during the Christmas assembly. To add to the festive spirit, each. homeroom class will decorate the door of their classroom again this year and the best door decorators will receive a pizza par- ty. An added bonus to this year's pizza party prize is that beverages will be provided for the winners. The Christmas assembly, to be held on Friday, Dec. 20, and will feature varlous acts relating to a Christmas theme performed by homerooms, clubs, friends or solo artists. If everything goes as planned regarding the Christmas assembly, Mrs. Brydges (the choir instructor) and friends in the choir will be singing Christmas carols in the front foyer *Aonds er atccson 51 twrArneet o *eddngs Atx &5,okii 728undersn St (at Mnning 66-90 on the last day of sehool to get everyone in the festive mood.
