Canada Post says flesidents- to go without home delivery BYJANDODGE Free Press Staff There was, good news and bad news for Whit- by residents who do flot receive -postal delivery at a public meeting called to discuss postal problems. The good news, an- nounced by Doug Tur- ner,- director of east operations for Canada Post, was that the Wit- bY Post Office wilI be openbeginning Feb. 10 until.7:30 pm. Monday tbrough Friday for pickup of mail. Ajax PoËt Off ice wil begin extended hours on Feb. 17. More than 1,100 Whit. by homes do not receive door-to-door, delivery. (By October that figure wiil be 2,000 said George Alexopoulos, area postmaster.) w Since the post office presently closes at 5:30 p.m., many residents who have, not finished work have to wait until Saturday to pick up mail. The bad news was these residents, and future residents who move to areas where door-to-door service bas not been established neyer will receive it.
