Romance was in the air at DO'C lest week as Vaientine's Day rolled around. Yes, Cupid's arrow seemed to have struck a few of my fellow Do'cers. This was ,maue W.JvouUay tne glassy-eyed stares and spaced-out looks they acquired during the week. However, such behaviour could also have been the resuit of the nurnber of tests our dear, dear teachers decided to spring onus 1 uur main Vaîentine's activity was Flower Day held on Feb. 14. This is an annual event that 15 sponsored by the Yearbook Club. Studen- ta and teachers alike bought pink, white and red carnations at $1.50 a piece. The flowers were, in turn, delivered to the "sweethearts" home- room. Driver's Education started again at DO'C for the would-be-drivers in our school. I per- sonally know the people enrolled.- in the course, and I think it would be safe to state that ail will be fine on the highways and byways of Durham Region. On Wednesday we were formaily in- troduced to our new chaplain, Father Bernie Wilson, when we had our first schooî Mass of the second semester. This Mass was celebrated on Ash Wed- nesday, the beginning of tne season of Lent. Yes, this is the time to give up chocolate bars and to stop fighting with littie brother. Groan!1 Moving on to the spor- ts scene, on Thursday, Feb. 6, the Junior boys basketball teain wrap- ped Up their league play with an agonizing loss to -Courtice High School. Despite our boys' fine effort, Courtice out- distanced thein 48-35. The high scorer was Adams Bertoia with 14 points. On the weekend, the junior boys basketbail teain played in a tour- nament at Dunbarton. DO'C's first gà me was against the Dunbarton teamn. In a very suspen- se-fiiled gaine, DO'C edged out Dunbarton 34- 32. However, in the second gaine, DO'C played Ajax High School and did not make out as well in the contest. The final score was 43-22 for Ajax. Last Thursday, our niidget boys tearn over- threw the team froin Courtice and were triumphant with a 51-16 score. The DO'C Char- gers played fabulous defence by not allowing Courtice more than six pointa in any of the four quarters. The high scorer of the game was Paul Peschisolldo with 13 points. ANDERSON H.S. WeIl, exams are finally overi The new semester has begun bringing with il exciting eventa. This year's fashion show date has been confirmed for Friday, March 7. This promises to be an evening to remember considering the hard work and dedication of al who are involved. Report cards were given out on Friday, Feb. 14. Needless to say there was excitement buzzing through Ander- son hallways because of this day. Not only were report carda received, but carnations for the "loved-ones" were or- dered at the school store and delivered to the lucky people's homeroom. Besides this, the super Vaien- tine's Day dance hosted by the band committee that evening kept its promise to bring about more than a few roman- cesi1 Aý group of Ander- sonians are now back froin a four-day trip to the village of St. Donat in Quebec. This was hosted by Wayne King and the Harwood Badminton Club. The top players froi aIll over. Ontario par- ticipated in this prestigious Ontario tournament. The singles matches > up to the semi-finals were played on Friday night, The athietes were then transported to the Harwood Secondary School for the opening ceremonies and dinner. The Anderson band trumpeted in the par- ticipants for the ceremonies. The superb dinner which was the creation of the Harwood food school students consisted of salada, coid meats, lasagna, meat- bails and the most overwhelming desserts. .The doubles, mixed doubles and ail semi- finals were played on Saturday, Feb. 1. The final matches were played on the morning of Sunday, Feb. 2. These were ail very exciting as none of the first seeded players ended up vic- torious. Anderson's Laura Oep- pen and Roxanne Kwan made it to the con- solation semi-finals in girl's doubles, and Roxanne also made it to the consolation singles' final. Mr. Andrew Uranowski acted as an wnpire for the entire tournament and also led the Anderson band for the opening ceremonies. Some other local achievements included Harwood's Heather VanPatten who teamed up with Beth Richar- dson froin Brantford to Win the girls consolation doubles championship. Also from Harwood, Mike Deane and Todd McDonald won the boys consolation doubles.
