Durham Rotarians, who have shared'a long affiliation with the charitable organization, kicked off their 1986 Easter Seals campaign last week and already a mailing has been sent out to past donors. On March 3, Whitby Rotarians will hold a letter stuffing bee for a mailing which will go out to the entire com- munity. There are four major sources of funds *- the annual Easter Seal campaign, regular direct mail campaigns, bequests and various special event activities such as the annual Bob- by Orr Skate-a-Thon and Snowarama, a 100 km. snowmobiling fun- draising challenge held in January and February. In addition to local fundraising events and the province-wide direct mail campaign, the Easter Seal campaign culminates in a 131/ hour television ex- travaganza called Superthon which will begin broadcasting on Saturday, March 22, in 12 Ontario cities. Organizers hope to raise $1.9 million through this medium. Butler says the 13/ hour telethon bas a new look, with each hour themed to satisfy the musical tastes of al viewers. Superthon will air in the following cities: Ottawa, Toronto, Wingham, London, Sud- bury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Windsor, Thunder Bay, Barrie and Kingston. The Society is incor- porated in Ontario and is -a registered charity under the regulations of Revenue Canada. The 1986 -budget totals ap- proximately $11 million, with 75 percent of it channelled directly into the care and treatment of physically disabled children. Ap- proximately 16 percent provides for extensive fundraising activities and information ser- vices, and nine percent is. allocated to ad- ministrative operations.
