Owned and operated by Campeau Corporation, one of Canada's top three real estate developers, the Oshawa Centre Is the largest retail facility east of Toronto and the flagship centre in the corporation's portfolio of 28 centres In six provinces. Campeau Corporation, working with the Merchants' Association of the centre, belleves strongly in serving the needs of the public first. The centre is open for shop- ping six days a week, five of which from 9:30 a.m. through 9:30 p.m. The Oshawa Centre, Canada's first regional shopping centre, is strategically placed in the west side of the city, ap- proximately one mile from the Oshawa downtown district and 30 miles from downtown Toronto. The Oshawa Centre was built in 1956 on 53 acres as an open complex of 40 stores, and was subsequen- tly covered over as It grew. The Centre, which expanded again in 1978 to one million square feet, now stands on 75 acres and includes five major anchors - Sears, Eaton's, The Bay, Loblaws and Zellers - 165 ancillary stores and a seven-storey of- fice tower housing such tenants as OHIP, IBM and Canadian Social Services. A full-time marketing/promotion depar- tment is always planning recreational trade shows, fashion shows and antique shows, to name a few, as well as varlous forms of fun and educational entertain- ment for chlldren and adults. Special customer services are also avallable to make a visit more enjoyable and shopping more comfortable. Centre's unique mix of food services and wide Ãariety of stores, there -are four cinemas and a large bowling alley to relax in. There is easy access to and from primary highways, with free parking for over 5,000 cars. Public transit is also available from all major locations. Consumer traffic volume is between 180,000 and 300,000 per week. Consistently involved ln support of local and national non-profit organizations, the Oshawa Centre is the place to meet friends and get in- volved with many fun com- munity activities and events throughout the year. With 30 years of history, the Oshawa Centre is still breaking ground for future growth and development.
