Pl ayer of the year Minor Novice hot ii Dixie Whitby's Brooklin Legion Minor Novice Rep Teamn finished off a terrifie season April 27 in the rùnner-up spot in Mississauga's >Dixie- Tournament - the third time this year the' team has wound up runner- Up. During the tour- nament, which was played during four weekends in Aprii, Brooklin Legion defeated Markham 3-1 with two goals coming from Brian Scott and another scored by Cory Brick. The teamn then went on to loose to Meadowvale Humber- view and Oakville Tri AA with Brian Scott scoring the lubs only two goals in those con- tests. From there Whitby went on to the Peel Division I.o beat Leaside 5-1 on goals by Jim Boyd, Ryan Hlorwood, Josh Wilson and two by Brian Scott. In the next game the minor, novice reps defeated South West London 4-2 with three more goals frorn Brian Scott and one from Sean Saunders who scored on a short- handed breakaway. in the semni-finai, Brooklin Legion defeated Dixie Ex- celsior 2-1 with Cory Brick and Ryan Hor- wood 'coming through with one goal each.' In the championship Whitby came up against North Toronto' who defeated them 3-1. Gavin Prout scored the clubs oniy goal on a breakaway wîth just 19 seconds left in the game spoiling the champion's shutout and showing that the boys weren't prepared to give up the ghost until the final whistle was blown. in seven Dixie Tour- namnent outings, Brookiin Legion took the most valuable player of the game award five tixnes. Brian Scott, Gavin Prout, Sean Saunders, .ieremy Schott and Cory Brick were ail namied most valuable players. The boys were in the running for second place in the Lakeshore League right up until the end of the playof fs when they went down to Peterborough in the final game and wound up in third place. The team was in two Major Novice tour- namnents and four Minor Novice tournaments this year playing a total of 59 games. They went ail the way to the cham- pionships in three of the minor tournaments before iosing and in the fourth, piayed in Newmarket, Brooklin Legion won the con- solation trophy.
