RYRIE Durham Co-ordinator Durham Regionol Crime Stoppers is aaking for the public's assistance in solving a number of vicious sexuai assouits which have occurred ini the Pickering and Whitby areas. Over the past three years, during the suma- mer months, womnen have been punched in the face, threatened with violence, forced to their hands and knees and sexually assaulted. The most recent at- tack occurred in the Dixie Road North area of Pickering on June 2, at 2:40 p.m., when the assailant also stole a credit card and cash. It is feit that one maie la responsibie for these attacha and la described as: maie, white, 5'7" to 5'9, aged 25/30 years., 150/160 lbs., muscular bulld, short dark brown hair with a dark moustache. Wearing - blue work pants, runnlng shoes and a golf type shirt. A composite photo is attached. The van wil ha used to transport supplies An overexpenditure 0f $2,500 has been ap- proved by council to ex- pand the municipal buiiding's phone system. The need for the ex- panded systemn is a resuit of the growth rate in the town and the need for more phone uines. The $2,500Owill be used and equipment to recreation faiities in the town. Cliff Milîs Motors has agreed to repaint the van to match the town's colours. to purchose software which wili ailow eight additional single uine sets to be added to the buiiding's phone system. A study of the town's anticipated telephone requirements over the next five years is currently under review. Lift for seniors A controlied access lift for the Whitby Seniors' Activity Centre at a coat of $48,061 has been approved by Whit- by council. The town had budgeted $44,000 for the elevator but the low tender for th in- stallation and suppiy of the elevator was by Milburn Interior Con- tracting of Oshawa in the amount of $45,061.
