After reviewing four possible candidates across the region for the fourth new traffic signal installation under this year's. budget, the works department determnined that the Thickson-Nichoi inter- section was the most pressing priority. According to a works department report: "Complaints have bean received regarding the delay to sida street traf- fie and a number of requests for signais have been recorded in the past two years. The number of complaints are expected to increase with the reconstruction- of Thickson Rd. to five lanes and the added hazard this presents to vehicles entering this intersection." (In March of tis year the region approved a $51/ million expansion of Thickson to five lanes - 80 percent of which is to be subsidized by the province while the region's share will be $1,125,000. The project is now underway and is expected to be finished in August.) According to regional works department traf- fic supervisor Mike Bellamy, the un- derground work for the Thickson-Nlchol traffic light will be done in con- junction with the Thickson expansion. Bellamy said the light should be complated and operating by the end of August. The traffic supervisor estimated that the cost of the Thickson-Nichol signal wiIl be about $40,000. The underground work for the Anderson- Rossland traffic light will probably get un- derway this week, ac- cording to Bellaniy, and should be completed and operable by the end of July. The total amount budgeted by the region Ibis year for the four new traffic light in- stallations is $139,000. The two remaining signal installations ap- proved for 1986 are Brock Rd. at Finch Ave. in Pickering and Rossland Rd. at Waverly Rd. in Oshawa. y - Announcing Canadian Womnan's Greatest G;rand --09«Mý ," 0e, Opening9 of our newest premier clubs The Colonnade Club and Shipp Centre Club i kt' 3IP ~lRSIIII>VUE Facilities include: Exclusively for Women, unlimited classes, suparvised personal program, personalized nutritionai program, unlimited use of high- tech aquipment, unlimitad use oi whirlpool, sauna. swimming pool, unlimitad use of cardiovascular tequipment "Lifecycle., private showers, lockars, drassing rooms, suntanning centres, babysitting facilities, affiliated with 2,000 clubs worldwide, facilities vary aI each location.
