Aldon. Scbool, con- veniently located near *both Ajax High School *and Harwood Secon- dary, bas two roomý devoted to the Schoolhouse Playcare Centre of Durham Inc., a non-profit organization run by a board of directors. Aldon, wbich will be accessible to people in the west end of the region, bouses the second Schoolbouse Pîsycare, Centre. Tbe original centre bas operated out of Central Collegiate in south Oshawa for the past two years. Last year at Central, 38 of the children cared for belonged to Durham board staff, but there were also 12 students who left tbelr cildren in the centre's care wbile tbey attended classes. The majority of the students were teen mothers, altbough some were women returning for upgrading after as long as 10 years out of school, Phyllis Reddick, the program supervisor said. As a workplace daycare centre, Schoolbouse Pîsycare is available only to Durbam Board of Education staff or students. (To qualify as a student an individual need only register for one course witb the board. Even a night course in bridge is ac- ceptable.) The cost of the daycare la $19 per day for toddlers, and $17.50 for preschoolers. However, aubsidies are available tbrougb the reglon's social services office. To apply for aubsidies the parent asks to see a social worker.
