The Free Press Staff Photo By MIKE JOHNSTON Free Press Staff Hollywood came to Whitby last week for two-days of shooting a new movie called Rolling Vengeance. Durham Regional Police had Durham Road 23 (Lake Ridge Rd.) closed to the public on Swiday, September 28 and Thursday, Oc- tober 3 while preparations were un- derway for a stunt which involved rolling a tractor trailer at 50 mph. Assistant director David Till said the location on Lake Ridge Rd., in the area of the railroad overpass, was choosen for the over- pass and the ability to have the road blocked off. Till said the stunt in- volved a tractor trailer, driven by stuntman Gary McLarty, who worked on the move Beverly His Cop, flip- ping over at 50 mph a!- ter concrete blocks are thrown through the front windshield. Al this while the truck has a car in front and back Hlydro. Whitby Hydro Elec- tric Commission will probably have to raise o! it and a second truck beside It. The crew trled the stunt on Sunday but Till said it was too late in the day so they returned the following Thursday. On hand, In case of an accident , were paramedlcs, ambulan- ces, the fire department and the police depar- tment. But they were not needed and Till said the stunt was executed perfectly. The premise of the movie, which stars Ned Beatty and Don Michael Paul, has a son seeking revenge on drunk drivers on a highway in the south after his family is killed by a drunk driver. To rid the highways of drunk drivers, Till said the son builds "a mon- ster killer truck." Rolling Vengeance is a Shawn His produc- tion, directed by Steven Sterns and produced by Jacj Fredman. Another reason the movie is being filmed in Canada is money. Till said the value of the Canadian dollar is attracting more and more- American film makers north of the 49th parallel. And with the movie makers comes money. Accordlng to Til, a movie being made in Canada has to have an ail-Canadian crew although department heads can be brought up from the United States. 'At one point on Thur- sday, while the director was shooting a close up o! a car being hit from behind by a truck he needed the road to be wet. Ahl through the cast and crew ideas were being passed back and forth on how to 'wet- down one-quarter mile of Durham Road 23. Siphon water from the near by ponds or start a bucket brigade?
