Sandy Mark and Heather Armitage of the Whitby club each raced ta, seven firsts in the competition at Anne Ot- tenbrite Pool Nov. 1 and 2. Jason Rushton was' first in six events while Jil Morrice won five events. Molly Morrice had four firsts as did Chris Donnelly. Armitage, competino in the girls age 13 and 14 division, had victories in the.400-metre freetyle, 20-metre indiviual mediey, and 100-inetre fly and, backstroke events. She was also first in the 5-metre freestyle, backstroke and fly events and third in the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke. Teammate Julie Leswick was first in the 100 breaststroke. second ta Armitage in the three 5-metre even- ta. She also had three third-place finishes. Rusbton, in the boys 1and 14 division, was tops in the 200 individual medley, 106 fly and backstroke and 50 fly and backstroke. He was sgecond in two other events, including the 400 freestyle won by team- mate Mark Kelly. Roy Kennedy and Jesse Wilson provided the shutout goaltending. In the Aurora game, B.J. Prout was the top shooter with two goals and two asists. Cameron Poland also scored twice while Josh Ford had the other Whitby backstroke. She was second to, Dainty in the 50 fly and: breaststroke. Dainty also was first in the 100 breaststroke and second in four events, three of them won by Morrice. Johnson won the .100 backstroke and had two second-place finishes and five thirds. Peter Ruderman was one offie tôpswimmers for boys 8 and under, "'i gathering four firsts, in HEATHER the 50 backstroke and freestyle and 25-metre ARMITAGE backstroke and -freestyle. Ruderman's team- mates Derek Roberts and Sandy Henderson also had good perfor- mances. Each had two seconds and two thirds behind Ruderman. Whitby almost upsets defending champions The Whitby juvenile hockey teamn has only two wins in its first six games of the regular season, but a close loss in a recent game was a morale booster for the club of 17 to 19-year- olds, Whitby lost 6-5 ta the defending Ontario AA juvenile champion Richmond Hill team. But that Richmond Hill win required a strong comeback from a 5-1 DESIGN lead the Whitby team had built. Coach Pat Sears is also encouraged since he was missing four players due ta injury. Moreover, juvenile hockey is get- ting back on track in Whitby since there was no team last year. "Because I have three different age clubs, we're in a training period," says Sears.
