Salary increase '-approved for staff at board The Durham Region Roman Catholic Separate School Board of Education announced at their Monday night meeting a 4.5 per cent Increase i pay for non- Union administrative staff. This Includes everybady at the board office except custodial staff. The director of educatian, superinten- ents, middle management and secretarial staff wiil ail receive the same percentageincrease, "The changeaver is healthy-for the board. " She ahia intends ta seek a directorship on the provincial board of the Ontario Separate Schaol Trustees' Association in April. A third reasan for Longo was a need ta have more tme for her family and for herself personaily. Besides her duties as chairnian, Longo has a fuil-time job as administrative co-ordinator for Ajax- Pickering Community Care. She wWf continue ta serve the remaining two years of her terni an the board as trustee for Ajax. Oshawa trustee Ivan Wallace thanked Longo for being the board's chairman. "It's been a great plessure ta sit under Sally Longo," he said. "I thinkshe's been better at it than most of us were. " The chairman is elected each year for a one-year term. 'II afready have a full- time job and a fuil-tinie family, and I'd like ta keep bath of them. I don't like taking on a job I can't give 100 per cent ta."ý On leave this yesr from his job as psycho- educational consultant with the Scarbarough Board of Education, Brown is pursuing this Ph.D. at the University of Toronto. The elections, this year an Dec. 8, are.held annuaily ta, elect a chairman from the trustees on the board. Lafarga has said she will remain an the board as trustee for Oshawa. Hydro strike over Whitby hydro workers were to return to work this week after accepting a contract last Friday. By one vote, workers, who had been on strilce for 82 days, decided to accept a two-year cantract retroactive tu July 1, 1986. 1' <Hydro's linemen will receive an inimediate raise of 79 cents and hour ta esrn $16.69 an -hour. In January they wiIl receive another nine cents an hour and in July, another 78 cents an hour ta esrn $17.56 an hour. as The workers, members of, the International Brother- hood ' f- Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 636, had wanted .parity with Ajax u lne, workers who esrn $17;28 an hour.
