Proposed zone south of Victoria The area in which aduit entertainment parlors may locate un- der Witby's proposed bylaw is In a zone south of Victoria St. As reported in last week's F ree Press, councillor -Marcel Brunelle had stated at the Dec. 22 council meeting that the zone would be north of Vic- toria St. to Taunton Rd., between Thickson Rd. and the Oshawa-Whitby boundary. He said he only learned later that that.zone was incorrect, and he had mentioned it during council as a resuit of a misunder- standing. The actual zone propose.d in the bylaw, which bas been given first and second reading, is for' lands zoned Îrestrictive, in- dustrial south of Vic- toria to the lake, with the same east and west boundaries. Town deputy-clerk Mike Gazo identified the actual proposed zone to the media following the Dec. 22 council session. A public hearing is to be held on the bylaw which would make illega ' three strip parlors in or about the downtown area. William Gray of Witby has been appoin- ted chairman of the Durham -Regional Housing Authority. Gray, who is retired, will chair the nine-, member authority that manages Ontario Housing 1,276 assisted housing units in Ajax, Beaverton, Bowman- ville, Cannington, Oshawa,. Pickering,' Port-Perry, Whitby and Uxbridge. The- federal, provin- cial and municipal governments nominate individuals for appoin- tment to ýthe housing authorities by provin- cial orders-in-council. The province appoints the housing authority chairman. The ,.day-to-da> management of OHC's 84,000 housing units is carried out by local housing a uthorities, although the primary responsibility for assistdd housing remains with OHC. The Durham Regional Housing Authority manages 911 senior citizens assisted ouigunits, and 365 units for low-income familles.- The authority ,aiso provides housing for, 1<-physically, deveopmentally and psychiatrically handicapped persons who are, capable of livine on their own.
