Atomswin, te in Barriie Atomtie* This past weekend Brooklin-Whitby minor atoms partfcipated in a AAA hockey* tournament in Barrie. Whitby played against teams from Detroit, Sudbury and London, getting a win, a tie and a loss. In the first game, Whitby defeated GPD of Detroit 5-1. Jeff Montaigue assisted by Paul Dillon and Mathew Muir scored the first goal. Mu ir scored the next goal on assists from Dillon and Craig Talent. Andre Marois scored the next two goals assisted first. by.. Tim Chai and then by Derek Young. Dillon put in the fifth goal on assists from Paul Brooks and Wayne Primeau. Goaltenders Jamie Hogel and Stephen St. Amnand worked solidly with the team to keep Detroit's goals down to one. Whitby lost the second game to Sudbury by'a 2- 1 score. Dillon, assisted by Jim Brown scored Whitby's only goal. Thre game remnained a 1-1 tie until three minutes into the third period when Sudbury scored. Whitby's St. Amand was outstanding in net and both offence and defence worked tirelessly and cohesively throughout the game. Whitby's third game against the London Sabres resulted in a 5-5 tie. It was an exciting game from start to finish. Primeau scored the first two goals assisted first by Montaigue and Talent, and next by Mike Hogan. Anderson beat out Campbell (Scarboro) two games to one in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, ACVI lost to Pickering putting them out of the tournament. According to Maniette Rozon, ACVI's girls volleyball coach, fatigue contributed to their loss are in the semi-finals. League play has resumed as ACVI teams met both McLaughlin and Henry Street. The seniors played last Friday at Courtice, and in Brampton on Saturday. The junior girls are hosting an invitational tournament on Friday, Feb. 6 and will be attending a tournament at Henry Street Feb. 14.
