The celebrations ac- tually began last sum- mer, 140years since the historie church opened its doors to the first congregation. It has continued into 1987. Throughout this period, the congregation has participated in many social.i activities including a Fuii Day, a dinner party, at which approximately 80 people were in attendance and the customary outdoor service held on the church lawn in early sulnmer.. .1r0 commemorate this occasion, an anniver- sary hymn was com- posed by St. John's organist, Gem Fitch, along ýwith Hugh McKellar, and was per- formed at a recent Town council meeting. The church has gone through a series of changes and renovations, including the rebuilding of one of the spires after a lightening boit passed through it in 1872, and the. installation of a basement in 1897.
