Barn fire is ivestigated An investigation lias begun into the qause of a barn fire at 705 Lake Ridge Road. The fire began aroundr 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 15. PAGE 9 Bylaw vote irks councillors ,Witby council departed from its normal procedure Monday niglit when councillor Marcel Brunette asked that a recorded vote be cailed on 4t bylaw, a move wbicb didn't sit well with bis fellow coun- cillors. The bylaw would permit the rezoning of the southeast corner of Dundas St. W. and Kendatwood Rd. to house a restaurant, a plan op- posed by Brunette. Council ap- proved the rezoning at a meeting on Feb. 9. The bytaw was separated from il others passed by council and was read aloud tbree times by deputy clerk Mike Gazo. After -the first reading, councillor Joe Drumm asked Brunelle why he made the request. Under the rules of council, Brunette is not required to answer, and he didn't. "Wben I fight and lose, I've lost. If it is passed by council, that's the Iaw," Drurnm told Brunette. "This is the first time since I've been on couneil that we have pulled out a- specific bylaw, " said coun- cillor Joe Bugeti who was atso an-' noyed at the move. A recorded vote was required on the second reading of the, bylaw. Councillors Bugetti,. Drumm, Ross Batten and Mayor Bob Atter- stey' voted in favor of the bylaw while councillors Brunelle, Gerry Emm and Tom Edwards opposed the bylaw. After the second reading, Atter- sley gave bis opinion 0k the move: "If we get into this and» start cballenging every bylaw, we're oe1/3j Ll2ICIiÇqf making a grave error, " he said. Gazo then read the bylaw a third time. The vote was the same as the second reading. After the bylaw was officially passed, councillor Edwards stood and said "there is some influence of an illegal action here."
