J c Society asks for $20,OOO FROM PAGE 9 week before was adequate for non- profit organizations. "lWe should not be dictated to by others," said Bugelli in regards to the letter. He said council has a policy of examining books* before handing out grants. He asked that council unanimously tell the society that it will not psy for the audit. Only regional councillor Gerry Emm agreed with the society. Upon hearing of council's decision Tuesday morning, Oyagi said the society will go ahead with the audit. I'They are forcing us. What choice have we got? They are set- ting the terms,"said Oyagi, adding that he believes the society has the estimated $1,000 it wiil cost to pay for the audit. But where the $6,500 has gone may remain a mystery. Oyagi said it is possible the amount will not shôw up on the audit because coun- cil has only requested an audit for 1986 and the grant was given in 1984. But Bugelli disputed that, saying that if the money was earmarked for a certain project, it should show up as "cash on hand. " Unless it went somewhere else," She added. Oyagi could not say how long the audit will take. Last year the society asked for a $5,500 grant. Oyagî said the main reason this year's request is so high out of the Lynde House." The society has had extra costs this year due to storing the artifacts and keeping the temporary .museum open during the winter months. In past years, the museum would have been closed, said B3LANKET a ------ -- -ma a He also said the rent has in- creased for the room, the society rents from the Town at the Centen- niai building for archives. "We- haven't done anything illegal," said Oyagi.
