PAGE 20, WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15,1987 Anderson ties in rugby exhibition The senior rugby team at Ander- son Collegiate opened their season with an exhibition match against Norkam High School of Kamloops, British Columbia, last Friday. 'The Norkam squad has been in the Whitby area for the past week as part of a cultural exchange program, an exchange whic nWin see the lads;from this area return the visit at the end of this month. The game on the whole proved to be an inoffensive one, with neither side appearing to put their heart and soul into the confrontation. As one of the players put it, "It's hard to hit a guy you're living with." Each B.C. player is staying with an Anderson team member while in this area. The Anderson student will then stay at his billet's home while in Kamloops. Although not an exciting game, the play covered most of the field and there were several "almost" tries on both sides. Anderson was first on the boards courtesy of a penalty kick by Matt Harris. This was Harris' second at- tempt in the matter of less than a minute. The first kick missed the mark. Norkam tied things up shortly before half time with a penalty kick by Todd Williams. The second half of the match again showed it is still early season as both kickers, experts in their own right, missed several attem- pts. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. The lads went at it again on Sun- day afternoon in a friendly match that saw members from each side join together to form opposing sides. It was proof of the old adage that rugby is a hooligan's game played by gentlemen. SPORTS Al together now! WHO'S GOT THE BALL? The question was answered by Darrell Tyssen of Kamloops, B.C. who came up with the ball during a throw-in in the match between Anderson Collegiate and Norkam High School last week.
