Strong, a 14-year-old Grade 9 student at Anderson CVI capped the gold medal in both the vault and bar as a result of her perfect tally. She also managed to earn a bronze medal in the balance beam and floor exercises. She placed second overail with a total score of 76.70, narrowly edged by Monica Covacci of Seneca College. Oshawa Geminis' coach Debbie Vidmar suggested Strong would have taken the ail round gold had she not slipped from the balan- ce beam during her routine. Brad Chalmers bad the win for Whitby. Witby hitters were Kevin Mit- chell, Darcy Head, Mike MacApagel and Chris Harris with singles, Brad Chamibers with a double, and Colin Dempster with a double and a single. Game one of the bantamn match- up went to WitbY 12-1. Jason Skin- ner was Whitby's winning pitcher, throwing a one-bitter. In the second inning Whitby broke the game wide open with five runs on singles by Dave Winchester, Jason Skinner, Darren Johnston and a double by Darrin Lee. In the fifth inning, Whitby scored four more runs on singles by Darrin Lee, Paul Quantrill, Darryn Christie, and Darren Johnston. other singles went to Jamnie Watters and Mike Baker. In the second game, Jeremy Har- ness pitched a one bitter to enable Witby to sweep the sertes with a 5- 0 score. In the sixtlffnning, Jeremy Harness tripled, Skinner walked and Jamie Watters doubled to score the final two runs. Whitby defeated Ajax 5- 0 in the first game - a pitcher's bat- tle where Simon Gasgnach allowed only one bit, struck out eight and walked only two batters. Ajax's pitcher Anstey gave up three bits while striking out eleven and walking five. Ajpx PeeWee's came up 11-10 winners in the second game tbat featured a total of 19 hits and eigbt errors. Ajax bounced back in the plosion. The win was clinched in the bottom of the seventb with a two out double (aided by the sun) driving in the winning run.
