Whitby In 1974, the floodplain mapping done by M.M. Dillon -Ltd. was brought into law. The mapping clearly showed that the area through which the GO line will pass is floodland. Also, ail the land north of the CNR embankment, including the 401, and up almost to Burns St. is floodland. In December of 1977, Totten Sims Hubicki prepared for the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority the Pringle Creek preliminary engineering study. This study, for the town of Whitby, was to stop the floodîng north of CNR embankment. Twin 20-foot culverts are required through the embankment. Should the GO line be allowed to pass through this. area without these, the cost to aiso pass under the GO line would be great and the land would be unusable. Russ Wilde Port Whitby, Ont. 'Seventh heaven' in Whitby To the editor: We have just returned from our stay and holiday with our daughter, husband and family who live overlooking your wonderful Corbett Creek. I would like to comment on the great hospitality which we enjoyed from ail the residents and friends of our daughter, during our month's stay iWhitby. We remember the sounds and sights of Whitby s0 well - the early morning hoot of the freight trains (sometimes more like a growl than a hoot); the so stark cry of the arriving and departing geese as they swooped down on the water; that unforgettable song of the many blackbirds and the sight of 50 many flitting from tree to tree as we stroiled by the creek. Ail this and many more are memories of Whitby which will stay with us in the years to corne. However, I would like to suggest to your local council or the powers that be that a form of seats or ben- ches could be strategically placed throughout the valley of the creek that would enable locals and visitors to relax and contemplate the beauty of such a natural scene, particularly in the quiet of the late evening. The one could describe this indeed as a "seventh heaven! " H. & L.D. Beth White Chairman Pringle Creek Parents Assoc. has been so much pussy-footing around the subject by the people responsibie for bringing it, that I have become fed up with waiting around for it. I can say that I really don't care any more, since I wiil be out of Oshawa 'in a couple of years anyway. For the people who do want the GO train to corne to Oshawa, do al you can. There are public meetings ail the time, and a local newspaper is even printing ads that can be filled ini and sent to the paper in or- der to get a big enough response to get the train. For crying out loud, the length of time it's taking to get the train is just plain ridiculous! ! William Bell Free enterprise is a joke when it cornes to gasoline pricing.
