E AC mem bers resign ... FROM PAGE 1 because of the incident. He did not attend the press conference held two weeks ago. The other vice president, Rowell, has been described by Fox as "overly ambitious" and seeking Tory support for her bid to run as trustee in the next election. Flewelling agreed with Fox that the committee name should not have been associated with a political party. He said the political party. He also said the Education Action Committee has folded. "We will not allow it to carry on under that name," he said. But that claim and others were disputed by Rowell. Rowell, who had stated at the press conference that she was onlyY supporting Ball as an individual and not on behalf of the committée as a whole, repeated that'position Tuesday. She described the resignations of Fox and Flewelling as "over- reaction," and said the commit- tee's name was included in the ad only as part of a list of "things I do. "That's just a list of credentials, that's all," she said. Rowell admitted she has been asked to run as trustee in the next election and "I am considering it," but added that there is "no way" she would receive Conservative support. She said Fox and Flewelling have also expressed political ambitions at the board or municipal level. She said the resignations of the two doesn't mean the Education Action Committee will cease. "It's valid and it's going to do good work'this year," said Rowell, "T'm not a quitter." Ed Buffett, campaign manager for Ball, says that Fox had given, permission to use his name in the advertisement and he knew that a photo would be used. Buffett says that Fox's request, that his title as committee president not be in- cluded in the ad, was honored. Meanwhile Rowell gave permission to use her title in the ad, says Buf- fett. Correction A headline in last week's issue in- correctly implied that the Education Action Cominittee sup- ported Conservative candidate Stephanie Ball. The headline should have stated that members of the committee were personally endorsing the can- didate. The Free Press wishes to apologize for the incorrect im- plication. W. C.
