Last week, administrator Bill Wallace told Town council the or- der was issued because the sehool bas not complied with various codes and bylaws. Since then, the Town has allowed construction workers on the site to proceed with some of the renovations. They include in- stallation of plumbing and a septic tank system and the relocation of a hydro pole. But at an operations committee meeting Monday night, Wallace told councillors students will not be allowed to attend the school until a formai site plan is filed with the Town. "They have to know how to behave and how to treat a person with AIDS, " said Nash, '<They have to learn how to handie it, not to look at a person with AIDS as a freak." St. Leo principal Tim McConnell indicated students at his school were already instructed on various forms of venereal disease as part of their curriculum and the introduc- tion on AIDS education would be handled in the same manner. 'We have the responsîbility to let the young people know the facts 50 they are equipped to protect them- selves," said McConnell.' He said teachers at the school would be utilizing time during a professional development day on Monday to discuss units of the ministry's documentation and prepare responses. McConnell stated there was not a timetable as yet regarding when the AIDS education would start at the school, but hoped it would be during this first term.
