SEPTEMBER 30, 1987 LYALL ALLEN NMeLARIEN Lyall Allen McLaren, a member of the Durham Regional Police for- ce, died at Oshawa General Hospital on Sunday, September 20, 1987. He was 55. He was born in Matawatchan, Ont. on March 1, 1932, son of Basil and Nellie (Thompson) McLaren, He married Sheila Gallogley on August 21, 1954. A Whitby resident for 35 years, ho was a member of the Oshawa Police Department and then Durham Regional Police for a total of 31 years. Hunting, fishing and curling were among his interests. Obituaries He is survlved by his wlfe and mother and daughters Leeann (Mrs. L. Wilson) of Iiowmanville, Sandra and Robin of Oshawa and Dana and Jeanne at home. Also survlved by grandchildren Cory, Drew and Shawna. WILFRED ALEXAND)ER Wilfred Florient Alex ande r died suddenly at his Whitby residence on Septem ber 23, 1987. He was 72. Ho was born in Inverness, . , va Scotia on June 15, 1915, son of the late John Baptist and Angelina (Lanceleve) Alexander. Mr. Alexander spent a number of years in British Columbia where ho married Betty Gallogley on Sep- tember 21, 1953. After 10 years in B.C., ho moved to Ontario in 1958 and joined tihe staff of Whitby Psychiatric Hospital as an atten- dant. He retired in 1980. He was a member of the Canadian Army Medical Corps <ac- tive) and served in Canada and the United Kingdom during World War il. Ho enjoyed handcrafts and as an outdoor enthusiast, ho enjoyed hor- ticulture and his cottage in the Ot- tawa Valley. Left to mourn are his wife Betty, sons Peter (and Brenda) Alexander and Peter (and Linda) Alexander and grandchildren Jessica, Monty, Ryan, Ian and Shayne. Also'sur- vived, by Charlie and Jeanne Gallogley, Maureen Pollard, Sheila McLaren and several nieces and nephe ws. He was predeceased by a brother, John. Coverley of Whitby died at Whitby General Hospital on September 19, 1987, in his 97th year. He was born in Bolton, England on March 3, 1891, son of John W. and Betsy A. (Warburton) Coverley. He married Margaret T. Killeen, who predeceased him, and in 1980, Blanche (Peggy> Chopping. ping. A veteran of both World War I and I1, Mr. Coverley came to Canada in 1912 and joined the Canadian army, 83rd battalion. He was a drill instructor during World War II. A resident of Whitby for many years, he was employed by the Town's works department for 10 years. A lawn bowler for 40 years, Anyone 12 years and up can still take the Red Cross babysitting course at the Brooklin Library. She was born in Bowmanville on December 18, 1947, the daughter of the late Murray and Georgina Gilbert and stepdaughter of Annie Gilber. .She is survived by husband Ken Hughes -and ehildren Denise Alsop of Brooklin, Dwaine Alsop of Oshawa and Daryl Alsop of Whitby.
