Contest for music week The Oshawa and District branch of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association will hold two contests to recognize Canada Music Week. Deadline for the poster contest (a 12 by 15-in. poster which tells the public about Canada Music Week Nov. 22-29) is Oct. 19 and is for several age categories. The composition competition, which aims to encourage the Canadian composers of tomorrow, had an Oct. 26 deadline and is also for various age groups. Entries must be in the student's han- dwriting. Oshawa, LiJ 1E7 Aquarium society meets The Durham Region Aquarium Society meets on the second Tuesday of every month from Sep- tember to June. Meetings are held in the cafeteria of Central Collegiate, on the corner of Simcoe and Gibb St. in Oshawa. Meetings start at 8 p.m. and usually last two hours. The agenda for each meeting generally includes a program about the hobby in the form of guest speakers, movies or practical demonstrations. There is also a fish show competition for club mem- bers and a small auction of fish, plants and hardware (aquarium related) brought in by club mem- bers. The auctions provide an excellent opportunity for people to purchase fish not commonly found in local stores.
