whitbyusene- WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY. QCT01BER 14, 1987't PAGE 9 Tanning salon opens at West 'Lynde plaza Carolyn Barlow always wanted to start a business but she waited to seil a service rather than a product. So along with her sister Cherie Hudgins, Barlow opened ý. tanning salon in the West Lynde plaza and called it Tanarama. The salon offers six tanning booths, each in a private room, and a babysitting service. Barlow explained it is sometimes diff icuit for a woman to go to a tan- ning salon when she also has to pay a babysitter. So from 9 a.m. to noon, while the parent is in a tan- ning booth, one of the Tanarama employees will look after the child in a room equipped with toys and a television. From now until Oct. 21, the first tan a person receives will be free. Depending on a person's skin, it may take anywhere from four to eight,.30-minute sessions to get a tan, then anywhere from once or twice a week to maintain it. MAYOR BOB ATTERSLEY recently helped Carolyn Barrow (right) and Cherie Hudgins (left) open their new business, "In the winter time this is good for business people and for those going on holidays down south," ex- plained Barlow. She says the tan- ning booth offers a good bas e, preventing excessive burning. During the.summer, she says people who don't have time to lie in the sun often use tanning salons., Each of the six sunbeds emits ultraviolet A rays, described as harmless rays that reach only the surface of the skin, oniy limited ultraviolet B rays. "The booths are from California and they have face shields," says Barlow, adding each room is equipped with a stereo sound system. Both Barlow and Hudgins live in Oshawa. Tanarama is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. The grand opening was held Oct. Tanarama, a tanning salon in the West Lynde plaza.
