Many girls at Trafalgar were thankful for a three-day weekend which began with our annual Turkey Trot. The Turkey Trot, in which everyone participated, was a run around the castle. Much to the amazement of many was the size of the castle and the hills, which proved to be no obstacle. The cooler weather added just the right touch, as it kept everyone moving in time to finish early. Our exciting run provided an energetic start to our long weekend. This past weekend marked the 109th Thanksgiving year in Canada with the first Canadian Thanksgiving held on the shores of Newfoun- dland in 1578 to give thanks for the safe arrival of English colonists. The renewal of family ties and the company of close friends is still the im- portant aspect of Thanksgiving.. Leslee Wilis Well, once again it was a busy week at Anderson Collegiate. Auditions for the school play, "By the Skin of our Teeth," took place and almost all the roles have been filled. Watch for a great performance from leaSi Melissa Gibson. Our annual fundraiser started on Wednesday, Oct. 7, with antassem- bly featuring skits by Len Kosurko's and Margo Rodgers' theatre arts classes. This year, we are selling Cadbury's chocolate bars for the low cost of $2 each. So far, sales have gone very well, and we hope to com- bine the money from last years' fundraiser with this year's to purchase something for the school. I' keep you posted on our progress. On the playing field this week, our girls' field hockey~team put forth a determined effort against Dunbarton and O'Neill but unfortunately lost both games by very close scores (4-0 and 1-0). Autumn melodies at Henry St. Band concerts at Henry Street High School will kick off Wed- nesday, Oct. 28 with "Autumn Melodies," featuring Henry's Sym- phonic Band and the Oshawa Civic Brass Band. The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $3 adults', $2 students and $1 seniors. Liz Aruta Last Friday Denis O'Connor High School students and teachers showed their school spirit as they all came out in brilliant and bold colors. People dressed in bright clothing and therefore were included in photographs taken to highlight the "Spectrum" theme for the 87-88 yearbook. The Do'C-A-Thon has passed, and now it's time to collect the money everyone has worked so hard for. Our goal this year was $40,000. In sports this past week, our tennis team participated in the LOSSA finals. Sean Tierney and Ryan DeLima advanced to the quarter-finals but unfortunately that was as far as both boys were able to reach. Kelson Lachance had an excellent chance to reach the semi-finals but lost in a tiebreaker with a close score of 7-4. On Oct. 1, our girls' field hockey team played a doubleheader at home. The host Chargers defeated Dunbarton by a score of 3-0 and came away with a 3-1 victory over Pickering. Margot Jacobs, Lesley Gazarek and Debbie Whiteway scored in the first game while Margot Jelliman scored a hat trick in the second. Our junior boys' soccer team played on Oct. 2 and 5. They defeated St. Mary's by a score of 4-0 and came away with another win by beating Brock 3-1. Our seniors also had another strong showing easily over- coming Brock by a score of 6-0. In basketball action, our midget, junior and senior teams lost to strong Henry teams. The girls fought hard but the Hawks proved to be too strong on the boards both defensively and offensively for all our girls. Gayle Snyder Mr. Melon says: "If you're not selling chocolate bars, what are you doing anyway." The slogans are made, the posters are up, the cam- paign is off and the chocolate bars are selling. With the help of the Gr. 9 blitz, our first full week of sales is encouraging. Special thanks to Whit- by Audio, Peaches and Jeans, *Middleton's, Athelte's World, Rob's Records, Valentino's, Square Boys Pizza, Sam the Record Man and Bernie G's for donating our prizes. Top prize is a compact disc player, so get out there and make the chocolate sales a success! On to our weekly news at H.S.H.S. Our lunch time activities continued this week with a jello eating contest. Our eager contestants braved through "thick and thin," sucking jello through a straw and literally having a face full of it. But they did pulled through to become all time jello eaters. Congrats to all especially 'The All-Time Jello Eater.' Year books went on sale Tuesday. With only two days of sales, time is limited. So get them now and cherish your high school memories forever! Well, guys, football season is off and our Hawks are off and flying! Our junior Hawks remain undefeated when they took Dunbarton last week 26-13. Way to go, guys! Congrats to all our teams - use that get up and go and go out and get 'em!
