PAGE 10, WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1987 Parade this Saturdaýýy Competition for best Christmas windows 1* t BOB STANLEY helps Santa Clauis get ready for the - Whitby Santa Clauis parade which gets underway Saturday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. The windows in downtown Whitby are even better than last year and as in previous years, the various merchants are competing against each other for prizes offered by the Durham Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario. Judging will take place on Monday evening, Dec. 14 in three categories: windows, facades and joint projeets. The last two are new categories. The windows category will be for the actual contents of windows themselves. 1Judging of facades will consider the overaîl front of the b~usiness - windows, doors, awnings, signs, etc. It will allow those businesses that have very littie window space to compete. The joint projeet category was designed to encourage the coordination and cooperation of adjacent businesses in order to give an overail effect. As in previous years, the judges will be looking for the use of traditional materials such as ibbon, evergreen boughs and simple lighting. The ACO also hol ds a competition annually for the best traditionally decorated bouses in Whitby. Judging for this competition will take place over several days in mid-December. Santa's workshop now open in downtown Whitby Santa's Workshop opened in Whitby Lane, 153 Brock St. N., on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Up until Dec. 23, Santa will be there il a.m. to 3 p.mn. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2 to 8 p.m. on Fridays and il a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. And photos of the kids with Santa can be taken for $2.
