William Lovelock appeared before council Monday night to again complain that the signs are too bright. But during discussion on the matter, councillors could not agree whether or not the facial signage was affecting adjacent bouses. I have looked at that situation twice and I don't get the*same feeling," said councillor Joe Drumm. "When the ligbts are filled in with namnes there won't be a problem at ail," he added. (The signs now sit above vacant stores.) Councillors Marcel Brunelle and Tom Edwards disagreed. I bave taken a look at the ligbts and they are brigbt. I don't tbink tbey were originally intended. What is there now is not fair baIl and it is not fair to the neigbborbood," said Brunelle. Edwards argued that the problemn came about because developers are failing to respond to concerns of residents. "The developer did make serlous changes we were not aware of," noted councillor Gerry Emm. Grading changes were made so that the building was lowered three feet. This reduction meant that the intended storefronts on the south and east walls were no longer practical and they were bricked in, explained Town planning staff. "With the storefronts gone, the canopy awning was no longer meaningful," added planning department on the reason for the change in ligbting. But Lovelock contended the change in signs bas affected area residents' way of living. HIe asked the lights be turned off at 10 p.m. and the wattage be reduced. But on legal advice stating the sign band is legal and consistent witb coundil's approvai, council voted to leave the signs as they are. HeIp your Heari..
