Olde Tyme Christmas will offer a special kind of mood, one of festivity, friendship and old-fashioned eharm: the smell of a freshly eut Christmas tree, hot spiced ider and home baked goodies. For gifts on a Christmas list, there will be a seleetion of handcrafted pieces by area craftspeople including pottery, stained glass, weaving, dolis, jewelry, handpainted garments and Christmas decorations. Another feature will be the display and sale of art by several member artists whieh will inelude paintings, prints, photography, drawings and seulpture. On Sunday aftemnoon at 4 p.m. there will be draws for five prizes: an old-fashioned Christmas arrangement by Leonard's Flowers, a photograph by Mary Ellen MeQuay, a limited edition print of The Station Gallery by Claire McAllister-Gass, a eandy gingerbread house by Ebba North and a Whitby Arts family membersfrip. Everyone is weleome and admission is free. The Station Gallery is loeated at the eorner of Henry and Victoria Streets in Whitby. Durham Shoestring Performers has chosen "Doc," written by Canadian playwright Sharon Pollock, as its first production for 1988 to be presented Fridays and Saturdays February 26 and 27 and March 4 and 5. Winner of the 1986 Governor General's Award for drama, this family drama by the author of 'Bloo d Relations" requires a cast of six two men ages 30 - 50, two women ages 30 - 50 and a sixteen-year-old girl. A pianist interested in eomposing original music is also needed. Doe explores the life of a prominent smnall-town physician and the effeet of his workaholic nature on his wife and daughter. The play is set in present day and eontains flashbaeks to the characters' youths. Director Carolyn Wilson will welcome production personnel as well as actors to her easting on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the arts resource centre, Oshawa City Hall compiex. Anyone auditioning must be prepared to stay until 10 p.m. on this easting evening. Henry concert On Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. Henry St. Hligh Sehool will be holding their annual Christmas coneert with speeial guest Len Clement, leading the Barber Shoppers. Also performing will be the sehool's new jazz ensemble and the symphonie intermediate band in the cafetorium. Admission is $3 aduits, $ students. and senior citizens.
