PAGE 32, WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2. 1987 Campbell wins Ontario open judo competition Chris Campbell, 16, from Whitby's Kiichi-Sai Judo Club, won the age 13 - 16 open beit competition in an Ontario open tournament held at Durbam COUlg over the weekend. Ciampbell, a student at Henry Street High School, wil now represent Ontario in the Canadian event next year. He xii compete in the under 59-kg. division. 'There doesn't seem to be anytbing stopping him this year," said club instructor and coach Dan Gribben of one of bis prize pupils. Campbell had previou sly woni the Ontario closed tournament (Ontaro competitors only) and was second at the Canadian open to the U.S. champion. Campbell managed to win one of three matches against the eventual champion. "He's reacbed the ability where nothing is going to stop bim," says Gribben. Paul Dillon, Adanm Parks and Primeau had the goals in a 3-0 shutout over Bramalea. Stephen St. Amand got the shutout. Primeau scored three goals while Parks, Brooks and Andre Marois bad the others in a 6-1 decision over Buffalo. But St. Catharines prevailed 6-1 over Whitby in the fourth game, Primeau getting the lone Whi tby goal. "We just ran out of steam," said coach Mike Primeau of Whitby. "I don't think they (St. Catharines) were five goals better than us. They were just well-rested." Primeau also scored a goal and an added an assist in a 7-4 win by a Canadian team over an American team at the tournanient.
