The popular attraction, located just north of Whitby town line on Regional Road 23, has been the subject of concern for some time now. The proposed Lakeridge Ski Resort, to be located on the west side of 23, north of the existing Dagmar Ski Club, had requested direct entrance to the regional road. They also proposed moving the spring to the west side of the road for which a parking lot would be provided. After a tour of the area, works commissioner Bill Twelvetrees and works committee chairman Gerry Emm turned thumbs down on both proposals. Both felt it best not to divert the well in case it destroyed the flow of the spring altogether. "People come from miles around to get water at the spring.....even Gordon Sinclair used to come all the way out here for his water," said Emm. "If we took a chance on moving e, - -. - - - - i- ~;--.~ - - it and something happened, I hate to think what an uproar there'd be." Emm said there had always been a problem with cars parking on the side of the road to collect water since Regional Rd. 23 was widened three or four years ago. But he added he was not sure whether a parking lot was the answer. "You'd still have the problem of cars pulling in and pulling out of a parking lot," he commented. Emm said his department had looked into building a parking lot on the east side of the road where the well is located. But the owner of the land where a lot could be constructed "was not interested" in selling. He estimated that building a parking lot would cost $150,000.
